So I got Myst IV: Revelation...

...and since I had it on preorder I got the 'Limited Edition' (Ooooo! Ahhhh!). This game comes on 3 DVD's so I expected MUCHO GRANDE EXTRAS!!! Well I got more extras on the pre-order disc then anything. (The Pre-order disc had a 100 meg trailer, along with the demo, and a bunch of other cool stuff).

Disc 1 - Install + Extra Disc (The Extras..oh wait...the ExtrA was a Myst-IV-jigsaw-puzzle-game-thing...oh wait silly me, it's only a 90 min demo of the jigsaw puzzle game, then shockwave wants me to buy it!)
Disc 2 - Play Disc
Disc 3 - Myst III: Exile (I bought Myst III when it first came out, but now I have it on DVD, so I dont have to keep switching between 4 CD's while I play.)

The game itself is amazing. The soundtrack is just as good as Myst III's. The graphics are AMAZING. The game looks like you are playing a movie. You can interact with just about anything you can get your grubby little hands on. The puzzles are great (better then the demo).

Anyone else buy Myst IV, or plan on buying it?

P.S. I am such a moron for buying Myst III when it first came out. I paid $50 (It came with the soundtrack, the game, the Prima guide, and a pewter figurine which rocks), now you can get Myst III free with Myst IV, and you can get Myst-Myst III for like $20 total....Meh oh well, the extras with Myst III made it worth it.

Graphics - A
Music - A
Extras - WTF, F-MINUS!!!
Gameplay - If there was a letter before A, it would be this.... +

I'm pretty confused as to why they needed 2 DVD's for the game itself. a 3GB game, plus a 9MB extra, shouldn't take up 2 DVD's. (Myst 3 total I'm pretty sure was around the same size, and it's on 1 DVD...*shrug*)

I bought it for my girlfriend, I'll see what she says.

Myst got old for me after the first one. It was fun but...too much lame 'clicky' trial and error.

I waited until there were a number of walkthroughs for Myst III, then bought the game for cheaper and used the walkthrough.

Found it much more enjoyable than trying to play a game with puzzles so abstract that you'd have to be painted by Picasso to understand it.

The original Myst - Myst IV has changed alot. Myst used to be pictures that you'd click, not in Myst IV you can look around 360 degrees, up down all around, its awesome, you see trees blowing in the wind, water falls, it's amazing. You can even tap on the glass of a counter, or open up a cabnit, just little things that make it interesting. Also the acting is amazingly good for a game.

Heh, the Prima guide is good, but I never really used it. I beat the game on my own, which well...it took a very long time :p With the guide I'd be done in like an hour, and that isn't any fun ^_^.

I've beaten every Myst so far (cept Uru, which I won't get), and I plan on getting Myst 4 now. And by beaten, I mean without strategy guides. Although I do have strategy guides anyway :D

I got a chance to see the early beta builds for revelation at Mysterium in July. I also got to meet their lead producer, lead artist, and their head writer... Cool people... They also had some of the most kick a** making of videos that they probably will never show again (not exactly professional stuff, during one of the videos the lead artist looked hung-over and kept ranting on about the “ TriForce™ ”).

The Game itself looks promising, but I think the Amulet is a pretty messed up idea. Who knows, I might pick it up this weekend.

I simply don't understand how you could charge someone for a veridian room sort of thing. Or that 'mysteries of space and time' flash game. They're NOT games, they're childlike point and clicks.

If you guys wanna play a frustrating, but interesting but fun game, find S.P.Q.R. I have no clue how you could've beat that game without a walkthrough.

Because it rocks. It isn't your average point-and-click. It's amazingly beautify to look at, and listen to. There is a really interesting story, and it makes you want to solve the mysteries/puzzles even more just so you can find out whats next. The Myst games have always been worth the money. They cost about 10-20 dollars less then most games, and when you look at what Myst started off as, it's amazing.

Maybe I'm biased because the first game I ever owned was this 'crystal key' thing, where you killed no one, and the puzzles were far too unimaginative to keep even my 6 or 7 year old brain active for long. It was horrible.

Yeah, Crystal Key sucked. The 2nd one was a bit better (still sucked), but overall it's just a Myst wannabe.

This isn't tread necromancy, it's been less then 3 weeks!

Anyway, I'm freaking stuck and I just started. It's like the first puzzle! (Not the oscilliscope) There is this typewriter thing, but first it says I need to restore power at the water place. I go there and the lever doesn't work. I hit all the buttons and looked at everything! What do I do? (Obviously this is being asked to people who own the game)

And here I thought the enjoyment of a puzzle game came by trying to solve the puzzles. :p

People buy Myst expecting seriously hard puzzles. But what' nice about Myst is the fact that they are so abstract. They aren't just your everyday switch puzzle or jumping puzzle that you have in most SP games. Buying Myst for action is like buying UT2004 for the storyline.

I agree that Myst is only for certain people, those who enjoy solving puzzles, but don't bash it on the fact that it is simply a puzzle game. It has a great story to it too. Just like UT2004 has great action, and has great MP too.
