I'm trying to put up just a simple little forun/posting module on my website. Anybody have recommendations on where I would find the HTML code for this?

I need...
Simple posting: No need to register for a screenname--Users shouldn't need to log in to post.
Don't need hosting... I have my own server.
Preferably, it could be part of my own page, but I guess I could link it to a seperate page or even have it hosted by another site and link it there.
Don't mind banner ads, but no popups or anything that installs spyware...

By the way, here's the site that I've been working on...

What do you guys think? Just something simple for the journalism club at my school.

You cant make a message board with plain HTML. You'll need to use some kind of server side scripting like PHP, Perl or ASP.
Also, most modern forum systems use a database backend.

I use PHPBB on my site. It's free, and has worked great so far.

PHPBB is really nice, if your host has the software for it.

And as for an HTML messageboard, you have to have some sort of script. HTML is simply a markup language, it cannot perform any sort of action. Javascript, CGI, PHP, ASP, those are the languages that power the forums.

And your website is teh suck for it does not look right in Firefox. (Most everything is simply missing.)

Not to mention, making a website with Frontpage is VERY, VERY BAD.

Hrmm... I was looking into PHPBB, and it looks really nice... but i'm trying to find something where users wouldn't have to go trhough the hassle of creating a screenname since it's just a small community and we all know who everyone is. Any suggestion for that kind of forum?

By the way Yecti, that was very rude. If you have an opinion on the site, that's fine, but you don't go around making jokes like that about people's names, especially since it's not some random anonymous person but someone that I know personally. (because obviously I would know the people listed on this site)

lol, CoolMatty... for your information, I made it in Microsoft Publisher, not Frontpage... it's just so much more manageable than Dreamweaver...

hrmmm... I guess I got to find a way to optimize it for Mozilla...

publisher.... for a webpage?

Looking at the source... it's horrible.

... 58 kilobytes of html... 58.... KB! That could have been done in 2kb.

Seriously, before you start thinking about a forum you should remake that site with Dreamweaver or frontpage if you have to. Front page's code is messy.. but not as bad as that.

Oh and i believe there is an option in phpbb to let guests post.

In the past I would have advocated dreamweaver, but it takes a lot of work to modify it to do xhtml properly. Never use frontpage or publisher, they simply don't produce decent websites, I can't think of a single wysiwyg designer that actually does a good job these days.

Personally I just write websites in notepad, completely ignoring css until I have a decent non-css page, then sticking in all the presentation afterwards.

But as has been mentioned, that entire design could be done in about 1kb of text and 5kb of graphics (excluding content).

First aim for "Working" then go for "optimized".

And publisher? I was just taking a guess that it was Frontpage, it could have been any microsoft product. But all Microsoft products are horrid at making websites. ('Cept Notepad :D) Methinks you should just trash it and rewrite it in Notepad or other favorite non-WYSIWYG editor.
