The Simplest Way to Pick Your President
2004-10-02, 9:11 PM #1
http://www.pickyourpresident.com/

This is a very good, basic, generalized overview of the policy beliefs of each of the candidates.

For those of us (Americans, who are registered to vote) whom this effects, let's please make a simple effort to be informed about who we would like to vote for.

By the way...

Yes, that is a nifty site.
Think while it's still legal.

It's a poor site. You should play simple with politics and think you understand them. You need to understand the issues before you vote, not know what someone sees as their stance. Do your own research.

The simplest way to pick a president would be to just have them beat the **** out of each other and last man standing gets in. :)

Well, reading down the list, I was almost sure that I would be voting for Kerry, and then I got to the "Religion In Government" section, and now I KNOW I'll be voting for Kerry.

Going by that site, I'd vote for Kerry, but just barely. Kerry: 22 Bush: 19

It's a poorly run education act made by Bush (which he even took money out of it later on in his term).

Not too bad a site but it only showed one of Kerry's views on each issue.

Neither are perfect on there. I don't like all of Kerry's stuff, but a lot of Bush's is idiotic.

Kerry- No Child Left Behind Act- somewhat favors: What crap. You're almost as bad as Bush.

Bush- Allow gays to openly serve in military- strongly oppose: Bigot.

Bush- require safety course, liscense before gun purchase- strongly oppose: WTF? Even if you're for gun rights, people should at least show they can be trusted with them.

Bush- Patriot Act- Strongly favor: No comment necessary.

Bush- Organized prayer in public schools- strongly favor: How can anybody who's not a total idiot favor this?

Bush- Displaying of 10 commandments in federal buildings- strongly favor: Yeah, let's see what he says when people try to put up stuff from the Koran.

... This site is ****ty. A lot of the preferences aren't even accurate - since when is Bush in favor of organized school prayers?

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it gives people what they want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.

I'm not convinced in the least that Kerry strongly opposes the Patriot Act. When Bush said the Patriot Act was "essential" in the debate, Kerry completely failed to call him on it.

If Bush's views on gun control on that site are accurate, then holy ****. I am appalled by them, and I am for LESS gun control. Patriot act: Bush - 10000, Kerry + 1. Religion and government: Not meant to be mashed together. Kerry + 1, Bush - 1000. Gay rights: Kerry + 1, Bush - 1000. Anyway, my point is, gun control is the one area where I thought Bush would have won me over, but his views are just ridicuolous.

But it's true! He is on the record with multiple views on each of these issues. There are things on that site he 'strongly opposes' that he voted for. Of course he explained that at his convention when he said he's complicated. Yes he is.

Let's not forget the sponser of the bill, ultra right winger Ted Kennedy. What money did he take out of it?

The NCLB Act had good intentions (to raise school achievement using higher standards), but the reason why it is not well liked especially by teachers and school systems is that it sets very high expectations without any additional funding from Congress. Usually, when the federal government adds more provisions into an educational bill, schools are given additional grants to help cover the costs. However, with the NCLB Act, schools did not get any additional funding; in fact, schools can lose existing funding if they fail to comply with the act. No Child Left Behind had good intentions - reforming what many see is a crumbling educational system - but it was executed quite poorly because it was not met with more money to cover its costs.

You don't need to meet someone to know what kind of person they are when they're the f***ing president of the united states.
