I was looking at these:

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=36-116-151&depa=0
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=36-121-118&depa=0

http://www.gameve.com/gve/Store/ProductDetails.aspx?sku=SP-CREAT-002

Which one should I get?
Or do you have a recommendation for a better one?

I'd like something that wouldn't get bad sound when I turn it up for music. (not super loud, just kinda loud)

But I mostly want this for games.

I really love my Logitech Z-640s. One of my best computer investments to date. They're relatively inexpensive, and the quality is awesome (for the price). The sound great loud and don't distort easily, and the woofer was enough to shake some paintings crooked on the the other side of my bedroom wall (living room).

Be sure to select Amazon as the store you buy it from. It comes with free shipping ($15 value) then. They use to be $39.99. That is the price I got them at. But a flat $47 is better than $51 + shipping at newegg. Unless newegg's shipping is free, then it's a toss up on who you like more.

Numbskulls! How can you claim to be geeks, yet ignore Froogle! You just go over to NewEgg and ignore anything that could be better, you fools!

Anyway, As far as my research has gotten, the Logitec Z-640s are the second-best speaker system, to the Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 Speakers. Here's what I judge to be the most reliable scource Froogle found, with them at $315US.

That's pretty much exactly what I would've said.

You can get better for more, obvoiusly, but for a budget, that set is damned good. I wouldn't give up my set for anything. ... Unless I was getting better speakers.

I am looking to buy new speakers for my computer. I currently own the Creative Labs Inspire 5300 5.1. I want something that has more power (these have hardly any and it distorts sometimes).

I was looking to buy the klipsch promedia 5.1 ultras, but perhaps somebody knows of something almost as good that is less expensive?

I'd disagree, I find most of the Logitech speakers to have way too much bass. Even the higher end ones, the Z-2640 or something like that, sounded terribly muddy. My roomate has them, no matter what I do I can't get rid of the muddiness. And this is on an Audigy 2 NX or whatever the external one is. A friend of mine has the Z-640s and an Audigy 2, and they sound worse.

But then most people like nothing but bass anyway...But I suppose with your budget you're going to get muddy sound. I'd personally just get a 2.1 system or good headphones.

I can agree with you that the bass can overpower everything else very quickly. After I got mine, I think I spent about two or three days tweaking the bass volume. I've got it in a place I like now, but with the Audigy, I can almost kill the sound coming from the bass completely if I want to.

It's really just a matter of what you consider good sound and what you want out of your speakers.

I've got the volume on my woofer set at around a quarter - it is true that the bass can get overpowering, but you can easily bring it down.

I think mine is in roughly the same place. After three days of listening to music through it and watching DVDs, that seemed to be the best spot. I have my Fader set all the way up so I get maximum volume from my rear speakers. Any less seemed really unbalanced to me. I have the Matrix switch thrown on all the time, except when I'm playing a DVD. The center channel is slightly over the mid-point in terms of volume.

Why the hell did I just describe the volume knobs on my speakers...

It's not the volume of the bass, the bass just sounds muddy period.

Be careful when hooking any 5.1 speaker setup into an audigy setup. I've found that the drivers will randomly mix the center channel and the subwoofer will begin to emit low center channel sounds.

From what I recall the subwoofer should only act as a low frequency emitter and operates seperate from any of the other five channels. It should include it's own track.

I've used the top of the line logitechs to build a miniture home theatre setup using optical wire and what-not and the bass acts exactly as it should when running from a pure digital source. On the other hand, its not very good when handling non 5.1 digital sources, since it mixes everything together and just creates a cluster**** of sound.

I'm pretty sure mine isn't doing that, but is there a way to double check?
