Yeah! Our election is before yours, and we don't even have a thread!

So, Aussies, who do you plan to vote for, and why?

IMO, both Latham and Howard are chumps with no real policies. I guess I'll be voting Greens, since the Democrats have given preferences to Family First.

If I had to pick between the two, I'd pick Liberal...only because I don't really want a thug as my Prime Minister. Call me picky, but...

In my opinion, this election will really be about the Greens. They're going to get a HUGE popularity boost, and probably start making an impact on our political culture.

I'm thinking of voting for the Greens. I was planning on a donkey vote because both of the major parties did nothing for me and I wanted to steer well clear of Family First, but because this is the first election I get to vote in, I thought I better make my vote count.

Wow, it's like you read my mind Pate. I'll be voting Greens too with preferences directed to Labor. Latham -is- a chump definitely, but words cannot describe how much I hate Howard and his devisive/lapdog brand of politics. I will uncork a great big bottle when he is gone.

PS - what the hell happened to the Dems? They really went from being a decent option to a piss weak wannabe power player over the last 5 years.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat as Jaiph, Greens -> Labor.

I don't exactly forsee a golden age under Latham, but Howard annoys the **** out of me.

I think what happened to the Democrats was summed up in a political cartoon I saw a year ago or so, the Dems were dressed up in fairy costumes and thumping each other over the head with caveman clubs.

Certainly Latham is better than Howard. But he's not good. But anyone that isn't Howard would be good enough for me.

It amuses me how Howard has been using an auto-dialler to call people in marginal seats, and give them a recording of an outline of their local liberal candidates policies. I heard the recording on the radio, sounded kinda annoying. It's not a smart move.

Wait, wait, wait.

Australia actually exists? I thought it was just some grand joke the world was trying to play on us.

Well you won't be laughing when Don Bradman is resurrected, marries John Howard (Everyone knows the only reason Johnny doesn't support gay marriage is because the Don is dead), and invades the West Coast, cricket bats a swingin'! :)

My vote exactly. If I can be bothered filling out the 3 billion boxes below the line...

Howard lost my vote (or preferences, as it where) with Iraq. I dont think Latham will be a briliant PM, but at least he has things slightly straighter about our foreign policy.

A vote for Howard is going to turn in to a vote for Costello... God forbid.

I myself will be voting for John Howard
A desperate disease requires a dangerous remedy.

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it gives people what they want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.

Yeah I got one of those at about 8AM before it was all over the news. I didn't listen to it all, just swore a couple of times and crawled back into bed.

edit- It might have been funny though if they hadn't put "this is a pre-recorded message" at the start of it... would have confused the **** out of me.

Don't make me hurt you. Unless you like it when I do that....god, I bet you do. Pervert.

Invalidly.

Of course it always gets down to who you dislike the least. Howard makes me cringe with embarassment everytime he opens his mouth. Not to mention that he has his nose buried in Bush's arse.

I'm voting Labor - even with the Scoresby Tollway which sucks to no end.

You want to replace an incompetent politician with another incompetent politician?

Beazley had some credibility so did Creen, but Latham looks like an 8 year old who would drop his daks at the sign of trouble.

.. well .. yes. Do you honestly believe that voting for any of the minor parties will do anything other that add preferences to either of the major parties?

Might get them a Senate seat.

Hell it's your vote and you're entitled to it, might as well try to make it count.

This the "Family First" thing: http://familyfirst.org.au/

I saw this: "Mandatory Internet filtering by all ISPs to protect children" and laughed and cried at the same time.

so, we should use crappy filters so things like breast cancer support sites. this is also pointless to those with no children or where the children are all over 16 (the age of consent).

Also, why do they think that kids will be protected by cencoring the internet. the disturbed preditors will still be out there and just take kids from the street.

why the hell did they get so many party's preferances?

Actually I will say this for Labor, one thing I really do like is their idea to split Telstra's wholesale and retail arms into seperate entities. That kicks so much ***.
2004-10-06, 8:49 PM #27
Egads, Family First actually want end users to pay for their kooky filter scheme. I knew they were a little extreme in some of their policies but charging Internet users up to $10 annually for something that could be solved by a one off purchase of Net Nanny is really freakin nuts.

How do the idiots expect to do it anyway? The only country to successfully censor the internet so far is Bhutan: no computers/soup for you.
