How fast can you solve a Rubik's Cube?
2004-10-06, 4:31 PM #1
My record is 2:20. One handed is 8:36, but that was with a few distractions. (I was doing it during my AP US history class...)

I've gotten addicted to this damn thing lately. I'm bringing back the craze... I've gotten five people to go find their old cube, and at least six people to go out and buy new ones.. Whenever I walk down the halls of my school, I see at least one, if not two or three, people cubing while they walk, while they talk, while they just stand around.

I'm so proud of myself...

Who else can solve the cube? (Without cheating)

Heck, I can't solve it WITH cheating.
Life is beautiful.

I can't solve it. Simple as that. :p
DO NOT WANT.

I hear that, if you do that, it'll never work correctly.

You do of course realise that the craze you are trying to resurrect is 20 years old?

I ha done of these things when I was 16! (yeah ok you do the math) - and still couldn't solve it :(

My parents were inconsiderate enough to have concieved me 15 years too late, so I'm trying to relive the decade any way I can..

Most of the time I can get most of the sides right.

I never had the patience to actually sit down and figure the thing out

i was working on one, bringin it to school for a few random days... then i got fed up after completing one side and 1 row and being unsuccessful at any more, so then i took it apart during one class period, and put it back together... i went around sowing all my firends and thay were all oogled that i had solved it. the next day i told theim the truth. *fun times*

*digs cube up out of stuff i should have never brough to collage with me*
Laughing at my spelling herts my feelings. Well laughing is fine actully, but posting about it is not.

I've never taken the time to sit down and learn the algorithm to solve a rubik's cube. My best was one side, and all but 1 piece of an adjacent side.
2004-10-06, 6:14 PM #16
I got three sides totally on accident. I was in the car just scrweing around, kinda looking out the window and twisting, and I got 3 sides....but couldn't get the rest

Random Cube Facts:

There are approximately 43 quintillion possible combinations. That's 4.3x10^21. Minus one, if you don't count being solved as a possible combination.

If you made one turn every second for 10 billion years, you would have only a 63% chance of solving it.

I use the layer by layer method, but I"m going to learn Petrus soon.

How fast?

Zero.

I did it once when I was 10. I basically finished a cube that was already half done.

0.623 seconds.

Actually, it wasnt me, it was a perl script that I wrote to do it for me... ;)

I watched a guy do it in 55 seconds for a talent show. He said that he practiced for 2 weeks and eventually learned common patterns.
2004-10-07, 2:58 AM #24
I can't do it, personally, but I know someone who has a Rubik's pen.
2004-10-07, 10:05 AM #25
34 seconds. Oh, wait, you said without cheating... I think ~50 minutes was my best record; I've only bothered to finish one a few times.

Oh, and as for the rumor that cheating will make it impossible to solve again; that's bogus. However, you'll likely not get the normal set of colors if you switch arround the stickers... For cheating, I prefer a flat-head screwdriver, as it still keeps the same orientation when finished.

I have a harder version of the cube as instead of colors it's comprised of six pictures. I've never solved it.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

I can't solve it beyond one side (with the adjecent squares also lining up nicely), but my brother can solve it in about 3 minutes. He used to have a collection of rubix cubes.
