Alright...here's a story with a kickass ending.

So I'm sitting at home, right? Well a friend messages me on AIM, asking to buy my DVI connector, and I told him sure. I look around and find it tucked away in my 6800GT box. Looking a bit closer, I find an S-Video cable. Realizing our big-screen TV has an s-video connector...I get an idea.

Porting my computer and all neccesary components down to our living room, I connect everything real quick, and boot 'er up. Next thing I know, I've got 62" of monitor looming ahead of me, at the POST screen. I'm in heaven.

Long story short--played a little UT2k4, and watched a little Clone Wars. I'm satisfied, to say the least. And I've found out I don't ever need to buy blank CDs or DVDs ever again.

Post your monitor...I guess. :)

19" Sharp LCD.

If I were at home, I could hook my computer up to the TV and have a lovely 59" widescreen monitor. But my LCD is sexay.

When I get Gentoo up and running and all that good stuff...well let's just say Doom 3 is going to be very interesting. Now I've just got to get a Male to Male, a splitter, and two more Male to Males for the TV (or surround sound). That's so far the only thing I lack.

Man, the possibilities.

yeah, i do this sometimes with our hdtv in the living room. normally on weekends my dad borrows a projector from work and we project dvds onto the wall (makes for a screen way bigger than any tv we have). so then afterwards i play max payne and doom3 on the projector. good times. nice theater speaker system too.

er but yeah. normal desktop monitor is a 19".

Sweet. What resolution? I'm a bit behind the times in terms of hooking computers upto TVs. It used to be you could only do 640x480, surely it's larger than that now... right?

I'm happy with my 10 year old 21" ViewSonic. Though by christmas, I might have a new 17" Samsung flat panel. I need the space.

No I won't sell, it. Three reasons why.
  1. It's heavy as hell. No way am I packing it up, hauling it to a FedEx place, and then paying shipping and praying it arrives unbroken. I don't think FedEx even has a sturdy enough box to put it in. Unless it's wood.
  2. It's slowly dying. The monitor is noticably brighter when you first turn it on, and then gradually darkens after 30 minutes or so. I've noticed it tearing every so often. It has a color problem sometimes when you first turn it on. Everything flashes magenta and then it fades.
  3. Do any of you REALLY want to buy a 10 year old 21" monitor that's showing it's age?

That honestly means nothing to me, and I'm way to tired right now to do a google search and try to absorb more information. Someone explain it for me so I can read it tomorrow.

Samsung 172x 17" (comparable to a 19" CRT) LCD monitor. 12ms response time so there's no blurring. I hate using the CRT monitors at work now, this is just soooooo much easier on the eyes.

Same as spork, i see....

Samsung 172x (17" LCD)

could have gone for a bigger size but didn't really have the need, plus i've found you get some ghosting on the 19" models, which although not always noticable its there.

This beauty has no ghosting that I can see, colour quality is perfect and its the thinnest LCD i've ever seen.

little review if anyones interested....

Actually it probably simulates 1024x768, but in reality it's actually just displaying the area a 1024x768 monitor would in its actual 480i resolution.

You'll only get that high of a resolution from a TV if it's a good HDTV with DVI in.

You always say it's comparable to a 19" CRT Spork, but it's not. =P

19" CRT nowadays almost always means 18" viewable. 17" LCD is just 17" viewable...

My 42" TV has a VGA input, which means I can do like 1440x960 :D

But even better is the ubersexay projector we have at school. It has a DVI input, with 1600x1200 max res. Oh, and the projector projects onto a screen in our gym approximately 120" diagonal. We had a LAN party there once, and it was pure heaven. Since I was running the lan, I got to play on the projector. Sure everyone could see what I was doing, but it didn't matter, cause they were too busy drooling to play :D

And as for my monitors?

Viewsonic P95f+b. Black 19" CRT. Love it.
Viewsonic VG700b. Black 17" LCD. Love it.

They run in dual monitor mode of course.

Normally, 19" Flat screen Monitor from View Sonic.

But someitmes, if my buds are over, I just hook it up to my projector.
