Got a virus.. W32 pate.b according to Mcafee.
But, I cant figure out how to delete it, its automaticly giving itself read only permissions, and i cant find it in task manager. Using WinXP.
Anyone know how to remove it?

open task manager, shutdown the task explorer.exe (trust me), but before doing so have a My Computer window open, go to the file, delete it. Or, if nothing else, try http://housecall.trendmicro.com

its using 100% of my system resources now... barely able to open firefox -_- and that housecall thing didnt work.. its given the folder its in readonly access, and its keeps reactivating the read only attribute, so i cant delete it. is there any way to delete a file, regardless of whether or not its read only?

Try killing explorer.exe and doing the housecall thing while it's killed. Also, go in and un-Read Only if you can. Also, in housecall, when you're done scanning, it'll pop up and you just have to press the delete key, should do your dirty work for you.

Start up in Safe Mode. Go to the folder. Uncheck Read Only and delete it. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Guess what? Yep, that's right. No, no, really, it's right. Think it's wrong? You're right, it's wrong. Know why? 'Cause it is

No.
Turn off system restore.
Boot into safe mode.
Scan for virus and remove when you find it's location.
Run regedit and search for the key, 'Run' and 'RunOnce' and make sure there is no sign of the virus there. If so delete it.
Reboot.
Turn system restore back on.

Easy. Really.

Will stuff like Suredelete get rid of it? It's just a program that deletes things by overwriting them, the reason i mention it, is because when i made an MS Word document, passworded it, then forgot said password, it was the only way I could get rid...

...that does kinda ignore the dll problem though...

Oh, and Shelltoys XP has a Shred function that might also do the same thing

UNDERPANTS GNOMES! GAH! THEY'RE BACK!

------------------
Yeah, how's this for odd? My parents haven't been the least bit interested in my love-life my entire life, and now that prom is soon my Dad all of a sudden seems concerned that if I don't find a date and go it will mean I'm a social failure.
I don't get it... I accepted that fact a long time ago, why is he just now realizing it?
