I don't watch many movies of that particular genre, but I would recommend One Hour Photo. Quite disturbing, freaky... It's right at a masterpiece, and Robin Williams is godly in it.

If you haven't seen it, you need to.

Audition or One Missed Call. Both by Takashi Miike. Worth the extra effort to see.

The Shining, if you've never seen it.

28 Days Later was quite good.

The Evil Dead Trilogy.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

One Hour Photo isn't really a horror movie...

I recommend What Lies Beneath because it is awesome.

Nightwatch- I don't think anyone other then me has seen this, but its an awesome movie. Really psychological and will have you guessing all the way through.

It- Stephen King. Nuff said.

Event Horizon- Really freaky Sci-fi thriller. if you like to jump out of your seat alot, this is the one for you.
A Knight's Tail
Exile: A Tale of Light in Dark
The Never Ending Story²

I've seen the original Danish movie. Does that count? Thought the twist was kind of predictable though.

Oooo. Just remembered another one:

Tesis. It's a good Spanish thriller. It isn't horror in the sense of supernatural stuff or zombies or monsters, but it does have a very oppressive and menacing air, like Se7en, especially for being as low-budget as it is. clicky-clicky I was watching it with my sister who'd seen it before, and I still guessed a villain. She asked how, I said because it makes absolutely no sense at this point in the movie :)

[Edit: Then there's always Shallow Grave too. Ewan McGregor in a Danny Boyle film. A trio of friends rent out an apartment to a tenant, then one day they find him dead with a suitcase full of money. Cue Treasure of the Sierra Madre in an apartment.]
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

Contact, based on Carl Sagan's book. Okay, so it's not a horror film, but it's one everybody must see.

Dead Alive. It's not really scary, but it is ridiculously gory, and pretty funny. After seening that it made me wonder how Peter Jackson got to do LOTR.
