Or being on the receiving end of a wireless router sucks as opposed to being directly connected to the modem. I swear, everything seems slower through the wireless...

Is this just my imagination, or is there a reason for this? And in that case, maybe a solution?

If there's too much humidity the internet gets stuck in the air between the water molecules, so try getting a dehumidifier, that should speed it up.

Really? Interesting to know. Thanks for the suggestion man, I'll look into that. Anything so I'm not this bloody impeded connection.

I was actually talking to Mikus, but thanks for editing your post.

Vinny, any one worth his arse at computers knows that the internet travels more slowly through water. Humidity is definitely the problem... Has it rained lately?

That is one thing this forum needs, is a "reply to what message" feature. But yeah, edit didn't hurt at all.

Mikus: Yes it has, but even during dry summer days it never performed as well as the main comp or friend's computers using the same ISP and modem. However, it seems to be worse now.

Perhaps it might be some interference on the same wavelength, or near it. Isn't WiFi set to use the ~2.4Ghz band? If so, then that's fairly crowded, andf would make it takle longer for the router and network card to filter out the "noise" from other devices using similar wavelengths. Just a thought; I am by no means qualified to solve problems with wireless connections,

Microwave ovens and 2.4ghz telephones can produce interference. You can change the channel on the phone OR on the router, it might help with that.

Heh, I have a wireless phone next to my comp and a microwave on the floor below. In any case, what are the consquences of fooling with the frequency?

And my current channel is 6, so what should I set it to otherwise?

Try surfing to your router's network ip (it will be in your documentation, ususally 192.168.0.100, or something like that). You should get a config screen where you can change the channel used, if I'm not mistaken.

Your phone should have a channel button on it. Set it to a channel where you get no static when your wireless connection is active, ie. you're downloading something.

As for the microwave, you're SOL.

The internet does not travel. Energy waves travel slower in water than in they do in air.

I'm trying to get to the one with a lot of porn on it. Maybe that is why it is so slow, it's crowded!

Mad Cow: Thanks alot for the instructions, I changed the channel on my phone, hoping that will alleviate the problem a bit. Damn microwave...
