The year is 1967. You have just received you 1-A classification. What are your options? Which option are you going to select? Why?

(both leagal and illegal options)
1-2 pages

sorry I keep asking for homework help [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif] I haven't in a while though (because I haven't been doing my homework for a while)

try cheating. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs and cackling, telling me, "You're next." They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.

I have no way of cheating and I'm just asking if anyone here who knows anything about Vietnam can tell me what the options would be

Well, I assume that's your draft notice.

Illegal: You can flee the country. Canada was always perfered, I believe, but Mexico if you're down south.

You could refuse to go, in which case you'd go to jail. Don't quote me on this next part, but I think you could either serve your sentance, or you could get out early if you decide to go. But I'm not positive on that.

Hope it helped a bit.

oh and one more thing, does anyone know whether with a 1-A you would still be exempt from the draft by going to school? I can't find much information in my textbook [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

If you had an education, or currently getting an education in some technical or required services of your own country, I.E. doctor, architecture, lawyer, etc. the draft wouldn't affect you. If you were just lounging around the house, you're outta luck. That's pretty much all I know about war-time drafts and conscriptions.

I don't know if that helped, but I tried...

You should think when making a choice of the draft:

Is there a good reason for you to go to war?

How will this choice affect you as an American? What will others think of you?

I meant like choising to avoid the draft in an illegal fashion or possibily other reasons (like getting an education, have physical problems or becoming homosexual [I think].)

You could lose some wieght to drop below the minimum, break a bone, join the national guard, become a drifter, commit a felony(Possibly. At least until your sentence was up), or perhaps display some deep mental instability that would make them think twice about putting a gun in your hands(possibly, but after seeing Full Metal Jacket...).

Being ill, wounded, or having a physical difficulty (such as being overweight, having respiratory or heart problems) will also save you from the draft.
