Pft, why do you bother "updating" Windows anyway? I just download patches mannually when I consider them worthwhile.

Updating windows just adds more bugs. :/

It's not a bug, it's a feature.

Ah, yes. The single very good feature that I saw added into Windows 2000/XP over Windows 4.x (AKA 9x): the extremely powerful task manager. Proper use of it nulls the need for almost anything else; you can kill viruses/worms/trojans with it very easily, as well as any spyware/adware, or any other "undesired" programs you please.

except most virii and spyware are set to autorun themselves on shutdown because they're stored in the memory...

so if you kill it from the task manager, and then pull the plug on your PC, that would stop it... temorarily. :p

i've tried that myself, it doesn't work, in XP at least. It will stop it for a few mintues but then it will come back and ask again.

Just turn off the automatic updates...
2004-10-14, 5:04 PM #14
Keep them on how else do you expect Windows to fix itself.

I think we should all stop using computers.

I leave my PC on 24/7, and run Automatic Update. I came home today and the Windows login screensaver was on, which means the PC had been rebooted. Checked Event Viewer and saw something saying that it had to reboot after applying updates, and it would do it in five minutes (at which time I guess it rebooted).

Must've been a really important patch. Kinda ticked me off, though.
