New Shifter...
2004-10-17, 2:57 PM #1
Some of you may recall me posting pictures of my car about a week ago... Anyway, I just bought a new shifter knob to replace the fugly one that came with it, after if came of in my hands (I found out the reason it did this is because there was only one hex screw holding it in, when there should have been three.)

Here's some pictures:

Old interior (you can see the old shifter):

I wish my car was a manual transmission. Gah I hate automatics.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

That's a neat shape.

I like Toyota gear shifters.
2004-10-17, 5:42 PM #9
I despise "custom" gear shifters. They do NOTHING for the performance of the car whatsoever, unless you've bought something like a Hurst short throw shifter, or a nice b&m ratcheting shifter... which you have not.

Note the "high performance carbon fiber styling. Guaranteed to add at least 700 horsepower."

If you'd read the thread, you'd know his old shifter was somewhat messed up.

...beats me. There wasn't a picture or anything, so I just put it on the way that was most comfortable... And I think it looks cool that way..

And Bill, I never said it was going to help my car's performance... I just needed something, since my old one broke (and it was ugly besides). If you'd read the post, you'd have known that. I did also want to get something that looked cool, though.

Plus the new shifter shortens the post significantly, which is much better... I'm actually thinking about removing that ugly rubber piece around the post, and then cutting the post off about halfway down... Do it yourself short shifter. :) Any suggestions on that, btw? I know I'll need to either purchase a new rubber guard thingy (what's that called anyway) or modify the one I have somehow to make it shorter.

Thanks, but it's acutally generic. I picked it up at Shucks Auto Supply. ;)

If I understand correctly, that rubber piece is the bushing. If you replace them, I suggest getting Booger Bushings. I've heard nothing but great things about them. The knob is backwards btw, but if it's more comfortable that's what matters. It's a copy of a momo knob, the raptor i think. I've always like that one.

Eh, I see what you mean about the rubber thing now. I suggest getting a leather boot (proper name). They can be had for decent prices and look much better than the stock rubber crap that comes in most cars. I've been meaning to replace mine for...over a year now.

My Toyota gear shifters comment was sort of a random fact. I did not mean to imply that your new shifter was Toyota.

Man I bet you'd like it if he put a Doom 3 shifter on it.

EDIT: And yeah a challenger had a pistol shifter from the factory... and who's interior is that? It makes my eyes bleed.

That interior belongs to LightStaff, and it makes all of our eyes bleed.

Yeah, personally I adore the high performance red and white interior... mixed with factory colors. It gives it that down syndrome-art student-on valium look.

do/did you guys wear mohawks or trench coats or ripped up anti flag vests by any chance? and hate the US goverment/high school/people in general? im gonna vote yes...
2004-10-17, 8:23 PM #27
No... but I bet if you wore that kind of stuff it would go with the interior of that poor attempt at a ricer. Get some nice shiny bracelets to match the fart cannon coffe can exhaust tip.

I think the colors of your interior look horrible. I must be some angsty piece of ****, huh?

Yes, I do wear a trench coat (but I do not listen goth music or whatever's cool for angsty kids these day. infact, my favorite band is the Beatles). No, I do not hate the government. I do hate "normal" people. Like people who mod their car, simply because it's way cool to do (not saying that's you).

Oh, and I don't have a mohawk. In today's society, people with mohawks would probably love your car.

If people make ugly things and are told it's good, they will continue to make ugly things. Eventually, other people will want to copy this, and they too will make ugly things. Then, everyone will be making ugly things.

Supporting bad does no good.

[selfsnip] Leave it alone. I don't particularly like his interior either, but it's not my car. I don't have to. He obviously spent a lot of time and effort to make his car how he wants it, so lay the hell off. Lightstaff, you too, just leave it.

And in conclusion, hooray for manual transmissions.
