What is wrong with these people?! Hey let's drag in young impressionable teenagers deluded into thinking this show will give them a chance at their dream and humiliate them on national tv. What a wonderful world!

I know it's been ranted against before (several times by myself), but reality tv is bringing out the worst in our society. I just thank god in Australia at least the bubble is bursting and most of the new wave of obnoxious crap is going down in flames.

If Reality TV was a person, I think I'd be among the first in line to shoot it in the face.

I swear, there is NOTHING on TV worth my time to watch anymore. It's all crap. I think I average only 7 hours a week on TV time.

Hmm...perhaps reality TV was invented by evil conspiring parents/organisation types to make kids find other forms of entertainment, such as sports?

I'll stick with Cartoon Network and Comedy Central [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] Though I find myself watching more History channel these days too, how odd.

Not even a naked midget strapped to the back of a horse singing the Lithuanian national anthem could save that show.

I've never heard of that show, but Reality TV should not be called "reality".

Ive said it before, and Ill say it again... Reality TV is a cancer upon televesion, and it WILL be the death of TV if it is not stopped.

The one show that really gets me is the one where some girl pretends to be engaged to some total loser/jerk for a million dollars. She lies to her parents and her friends on national television, and has to continue doing it right up to the point where they would say "I do" if she wants the money.

I decided not to watch it, but you can tell from the commercials that it's destroying her family and her self-respect. Why anyone would volunteer to do that is beyond me.

Idiocy is a kingdom and television is it's castle.

Reality TV is currently the king of the castle.

I don't know how these shows get on tv anyway. I don't know of anyone who watches the blasted things.

As I said in another thread:

Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs and cackling, telling me, "You're next." They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.

The saddest part of it all is that these shows get the highest ratings by far.

Can I shoot it too? Ever since Survivor, countless clones have been made. I think we need to come up with our own reality TV show. It will be about us wrecking havok on all reality TV shows.

I've been looking at TV more and more as a learning tool instead of a source of entertainment lately. History Television is the first channel I check when I flick on the tube. Then comes the news, Space, Teletoon, and the Comedy Network (The last three are the only ones with decent entertainment, IMO)

I watch the Discovery Channel, and sometimes the Discovery Channel.

If you consider The Apprentice a reality show, then I suppose not all reality TV is bad.
2004-04-08, 6:28 PM #25
I watch a lot of movies on Telefutura. The dubbing is horrendous but they usually have a good selection.

Was also watching some lecture series on PBS given by a complete lunatic who somehow got a Phd. He was saying that the working class during the agricultural revolution sometimes became so hungry that they ate grass, earth and in many cases their own hands. Later he was explaining how major cities all over the world were similar to amusement parks for rural people to visit. He compared them to disney world, euro disney and somalia. From the look of it none of the audience caught the somalia part, but maybe he meant a different somalia...

Anyway, I obviously don't have cable.

Because Reality TV is all about the ratings. It gets them, decent TV doesnt. Most people agree with me - Reality TV sucks noodles - they will, however and unfortuantly, watch it.

Reality TV is cheaper to make. You dont need any writers, actors, etc, its all spontaneos and done with ordinary people.

The problem with it? It sucks. Theres no real content, no replay value, no real value, moral, or lesson. Its devoid of anything that makes TV worth watching. They fail to touch any intillectual level, merely the emotional; and not the emotions that count. And beyond all of that, theres no point. The whole of the average Reality TV show can be summed up in 10 seconds - what happens at the very end of the last episode.
