over rated?

I think so, I found that single player was really boring, dont know about you.

However I am considering about buying it again, so I can play counter strike. Is it worth it?

You can buy a stand alone version of Counter-Strike, if thats all you're looking for.

I personally enjoyed Half-Life sp, although mostly the levels involving the marines, I thought the Xen levels were ok, but they just werent as much fun. I also liked Blue Shift a lot, although it was far too short.

loved the UNFORESEEN CONSEQUENCES episode, it had a lot of atmosphere.

I hated the first part of the Apprehension episode, all that murky water made it nearly impossible to see where I was going.

Halflife was a good game. The graphics may be a little dated, but the gameplay is still excellent.

Try the other 1.2 million mods for chrit's sake. The Specialists, Sven Coop, Sci and Industry, not forgetting Natural Selection.

They sell counterstrike and day of defeat seperately for exactly the same price as half life. You can just get half-life instead and download those two for free. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Blue Shift was one of the 2 add-ons for the game, the first being Opposing Force, where you played as one of the Marines sent into Black Mesa to clean things up. In Blue Shift, you played as a security guard... The very guard that was locked out on the tram platform that you see at the beginning of the original game in fact. Blue shift opens with you being stuck on that platform, and as you wait for someone on the other side to unlock it, the tram carrying Freeman goes buy... he looks at you and shakes his head. Good times. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I would buy blue shift, but no one carries it anymore. Surely I don't have to resort to piracy to get it....

Actually, you can just buy one of them and download the two others for free now, if I remember correctly. What you're really buying is just a license to play online.

Yeah, if you have a valid key you dont need anything installed. I installed steam (about 600k) then logged in to my account with my HL key and downloaded everything.

One thing that does annoy me is that I can't play on the same server on both my PC's with the same login. I need a new account to play on the same server with 2 pc's.

P.s. Anyone know how to get BlueShift working through steam?

I didnt suck.. it just wasnt very long, and the story was mediocre. But the gameplay was awesome, and the story did fit well into the rest of the series.

He who doesn't appreciate HL SP probably cheated through it.

Buy Half life. Don't buy mods, because that's just a way of extracting money from mindless automatons who haven't realised that a) CS sucks more arse than a black hole, and b) you can download it.

I dont know why you'd want to get Blue Shift working through steam, as its only single player, but I'm sure there is a way.

And Tony, if you buy Day of Defeat or Counterstrike, any other Half-Life mod will work with those stand alone mods, and you can download the original Half-Life for free through stream. Like I stated before, all you are really buying is a license to play online... you get said license by buying either Half-Life, Opposing Force, Counterstrike, or Day of Defeat, and you can then download everything else for free.

Does that mean that you can grab full version games through stream? I have the original half life, so could I get blue shift that way?

Overrated? Hardly. Half-Life is easily one of the best games ever. I never beat singleplayer because it become very repititious and boring, but multiplayer was a blast. CounterStrike is still fun to play to this day. There are better games out now, but for its time, Half-Life was far from overrated.

I liked the Half-Life singleplayer, and despite all the bad things people say, I like Blue Shift even more.

It may have seemed a bit short after enduring through the endlessly long HL SP, but I think it was just long enough to fit the storyline. Blue Shift seemed more personal than Half-Life or Opposing Force, probably because you spend most of the game looking for or working with people who actually have names. The graphics and scripted sequences were a lot better than the original Half-Life as well.

Oh, and Dr. Rosenberg is the coolest scientist at Black Mesa.

You cant get blue shift, because its not on steam (sp only). But yes, I'm pretty sure you can get Opposing Force through steam for free if you already own half-life. I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure thats how it works.

Please download They Hunger for Half-Life. I've beat it twice, and it astounds me still. The atmosphere is just incredible, with lots of little odds and ends.

I was also unimpressed with Halflife. Don't get me wrong, it's tons of fun, but it's really nothing that hasn't been done 100 times before (and after).

Except that when it came out, a lot of it hadnt been done before. Remember, the game came out shortly after Jedi Knight, back when the true-3D FPS genre was still fairly new.

The animation system was a lot better, there were friendly (although useless) NPCs, improvements in AI, and the graphics were completely stunning.

Sure, looking back, with games like Far Cry out, and Half-Life 2 and DooM 3 (hopefully) coming soon, it looks dated and crude. But that's like comparing Super Mario Brothers 3 to Mario Sunshine.

They Hunger is the best SP mod for HL IMO, and with Counter Strike, Day of Defeat, and Natural Selection you will never need another MP game. Just buy HL and get them all free.

I liked HL SP. I liked Blue Shift and Opposing Force as well. I can't really complain about how short Blue Shift was since I got it and Oppsoing Force for $10.

In my view, JK kicked its ***, but thats me, I only had half life for about a week before selling it. I found all its missions boring to the extream. Rather like the origional Unreal, and I was never big on online gaming, so I never actually tried any of the MP...

JK on the other hand I've had for years, though I rarley played it online until comparitivly recently.

I suppose it was because JK was so diverse and had loads of completely different levels and types of level.

Surface Tension and maybe the levels a little before and after that one were my favorite episode in Half Life that I can remember. I think I enjoyed pretty much all of Opposing Force. That just ruled. Blue Shift was OK.

This reminds me. I really havn't kept up on HL2, but has there been any mention at all about Corporal Shepherd (the guy you play as in OP)? I would really like to see him back. The ending was kind of a let down..

i really dislike HL... it had a few good moments but i generally disliked it... Opposing Force i found enjoyable... blue shift i never played... and Counter Strike? HELL NO

CS is pure crap IMO

the only reason i have not sold my copy of HL is because there are some great mods for it... They Hunger, They Hunger 2 (was there ever a They Hunger 3?), USS Darkstar, TFC, Firearms, DoD, the list goes on...

If you get steam, if you have A cd key. You can download everything else (Except condition zero) for free. That includes, Half-Life, Richochet, TFC, Counter-Strike, Day Of Defeat, Opposing Force, Deathmatch classic, and not to mention mods you d/l for it.
