Have you ever considered suicide?
2004-10-22, 11:09 PM #1
Honestly. Take a moment, search your feelings...

I came very close a few years ago, bad times :(
2004-10-22, 11:31 PM #3
I've thought about it; realized that it is illogical, and went from there. I never really seriously considered it.

I tried hanging myself when I was 10.

I actually wished for the whole world to explode when I was 5. But not for my death :)

Never even considered it.

It may end your pain, but it's selfish, and it brings pain to everyone else you knew. The positive here, does not outweigh the negative. I don't think I'd have fun in the afterlife knowing the pained I'd caused all of my friends and family.

And no, I've never thought about it, for those exact reasons above.

Seriously, that's the worst reason I've ever heard to try to convince someone not to commit suicide. Do you think they care one bit? Hardly. Telling someone who is contemplating suicide that they're selfish is only going to further their suicide. You're damn right they're selfish, and they should be if they're contemplating suicide.

A lot of suicidal people are convinced that they'd be doing everyone a favor. Calling it selfish is not bad.

I took a bunch of pills once, but then I chickened out and had to go to the hospital and drink charcoal.

Honestly, yes. But never thought too seriously about it.

Yeah, but it was one of those "God, do I even have any friends anymore?" moments, and you're looking at the knife thinking ... common sense kicks in and you realise how good things actually are.

Yup, think about it alot. Not interested in living, will die anyway, why delay, sounds fun. You really really wanna know what happens in death, so it's like peeking at your christmas presents early.

I have considered suicide, yes; the theory of it to be precise. The consequences. I have never planned to do it, but I think it's quite natural to try to imagine what it would mean to your parents and other people who know you.

Actually, the effect on my family is the main reason I've never attempted to commit suicide. You cannot bundle people into a group like that. Being suicidally depressed does not necessarily mean you don't care about people around you.

kinda, you still care about people, but you believe it would be best if you died and stopped bothering those around you, since at the end of the day you will only push loved ones away.

Come close several times in the last 3 months...
Advice: Use pills/alcohol. Slitting wrists makes scares and everyone can see em, gets embarassing. :(

I've thought about it. Never with any great belief in it, but thought about it.
2004-10-23, 7:27 AM #22
Been way too close to it.

I'm sure one point when we were very little and got in big trouble, we all considered it to some degree or another. I know I did. But then I realized that it would probably hurt more than a spanking, so I gave it up. :p

I know a couple of people who commited suicide recently. One two fridays ago with Carbon Monoxide in his car, and one a few days later, last tuesday with a gun. I only knew the second well.

The families were crushed, and no one really knows why. They seemed fine.

Thought about it, never seriously considered it, because it's a "permanent solution to a temporary problem". And I live a sweet life anyways. :D

What a depressing thread.

Here comes GIR and a rocking-out banana to make it all better...

No, suicide is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of in my life. Might have something to do with the fact that I am so easily content/pleased.

I like the way you put that :)

Yes, in like 6th grade or something in particular -- I was just really burned up about something (stupid, I'll bet).
My dad was giving me a hard time about something, I think it was a book report video -- I wanted to do some stuff but he wouldn't let me. And some other arguments... and I threatened suicide. I don't think he took me seriously.

In any case, I'm well over it -- nowadays I only get depressed, not suicidal
May the mass times acceleration be with you.

On another note, I also consider depression stupid... but like I said, I'm unique.

This is a bit disturbing that the poll shows that more are in favor of thinking about it.
2004-10-23, 11:55 AM #32
Well just because they've thought about it doesn't mean they'd do it, or attempted it, or are likely to think about it again...
2004-10-23, 12:20 PM #33
I can understand becoming depressed somewhat, because things may not be going right, etc. But to be in constant depression/suicidal, sitting wallowing in your own self pity, is where people need serious help. And a slap across the face. It's selfish, stupid, and in no way really solves anything except your current problems. What the hell does ending your life accomplish? A hell of a lot of pain for people that knew you, and whoop dee doo. You get to be 6 feet in the ground or burned at 900 friggin degrees. I'll die when it's my time thank you, not before then.
