Holy crap! Sending flowers is freaking expensive with 1-800-flowers!

I have a female friend who's having a birthday next week, and I want to send her some flowers and a pretty little birthday poem. I do NOT have 50 dollars to spend. I have about 20, at most. Any suggestions? She lives about an hour away, so I can't deliver them myself.

That might be a good idea. Perhaps there's a local flourist where she is, and I can get it delivered that way. I just seriously can't afford a 25 dollar single rose for a good friend's birthday.

Do you have a local flower shop that can deliver in her area? Probably small businesses are cheaper in products than major coporate rip-offs.

When I did it last time, I spent around $50, and that seems to be about the norm.

But like echoman said, check the more obscure local shops, they are a better value and deliver a lot cheaper.

I ordered a single rose for a friend's birthday.. was about $22 NZ delivered. Turned out if I had spent $25 she would have gotten three roses I think it was.

Woah... $50?

Last time I sent flowers it was $AUD20 for a nice arrangement, and free delivery the next day. Of course that was local and from the local florist, but still...

I'm not entirely certain how national they are, as I found them via the local grocery stores... but try http://www.ftd.com/ I've used them, and they had good prices.

I'm almost certain they're national, since they have a link on their menu bar for international orders.

I noticed right away that there's a dozen roses for $29.99

But seriously...a single rose should be like $3-4 tops. You'd save more money, gas and time included, just hand delivering it to her. Not to mention it's more impressive.

A small update:

I just got off the phone with a flourist in her area. I'm spending 20 bucks plus 3 bucks for taxes and delivery fee for some purple flowers, whatever they may be. Hopefully, she appreciates them. I also talked to her boyfriend, just so he knows I meant nothing by it.

Case: Closed.

Well, until I get her response...
