Alrighty, some new news via my friend which I think originated from slashdot. ATi's newest card, the R420, is going to have 16, count them, 16 pipes. This has been confirmed by ATi themselves. What does this mean? Well with rumors of nVidia's newest "16 pipe solution" which may be only 8 pipes at double speed, this means that ATi's going to be some pretty good competetion. And I don't have to stop being a fanboy. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

You should also note this:

We just received confirmation that X800 Pro will run on 12 pipelines, Radeon X800 XT will run on 16 pipelines and Radeon X800 SE will run on 8. It is important to note that all three of these chips are based on the same R420/R423 core. ATI could have an overclocker'ss/softmodder s dream with the X800 Pro and SE derivaties! This also comes as somewhat of a surprise since original leaked ATI documents claimed R420 would utilize 8 "Extreme" pipelines.</font>

Very. I was afraid I'd have to bow down to nVidia for my next card. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

I'll stick with Gentoo Linux / OpenGL / Nvidia.

I see no reason to upgrade my GF4 TI4200.

You'd be surprised the innovations ATi is making in the Linux Drivers area. Try them out next time you get a card, they're actually WORKING on the linux drivers now.

See, he had a card, but in a freak accident involving Mystic loosing all common sense, he sold it.

Yes, I'm still trying to convince the nice men in white coats to put some sense into him [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]
