Quoting "for truth" and "Fixed."

Quoted for truth is just stupid, trying typing up on original opinion, and "fixed" (though I've used it myself) is just a lazy way of saying you're wrong but I'm too lazy to justify my opinion.

Quoted for truth ;)

but seriously, if someone just quotes someone else without adding any comment of their own, why bother posting in the first place?

I've always thought "fixed" to be more than that. In fact, it's a symbol of the puerile nature of not only this forum, but the entire internet. It's truly saddening, in a way.

It's also really freakin' annoying.

FIXED[/size]

seriously though? who cares.... 99% of the time the whole fixed thing is a joke.... you know what a joke is right?

although being pedantic and straight faced all the time is a wonderful thing if you wanna work in a legal firm, its the internet... i really don't think everything has to be so high brow.

and "quoted for truth" is just like a poll without a poll in it... have you used a poll before?

it's a stupid attempt to imitate SA. it should stop.

SA bans for it. i think if it continues here, we should do the same!
A desperate disease requires a dangerous remedy.

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it gives people what they want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.

"Quoted for truth" and "fixed" are things seen often on the Something Awful forums. This means they're both creative and hilarious.

It is something, that if used properly, can be clever and funny. But that means it has to be used in small amounts. It's just like the "forum pics." At first everyone thinks they're funny and clever. But people use them WAY too often. It seems like every thread these days has at least one "quoted for truth" and one "fixed" post. It gets annoying. And the same goes for these pictures. Most of them are not even pertainant to the situation.

Well, if the thread starter wants to get an impression of public opinion of one thing or another (and doesn't want to use the poll function for some reason), then the "Quoted for truth" has a function. And the use of "fixed" is pretty obvious. Of course it's quite self-evident that neither of them creates anything totally new, so they can only have a supporting (or opposing) role, and no ordinary thread can be based on them.

It COULD be just a forum, so it doesn't really impact anyone's life negatively or positively, and this little issue may just be a minor annoyance.

I might be wrong here.

I would actually say that most of the time people who post "fixed" are making a joke, and most of the rest of the time, they're pointing out a small fact that someone got wrong, and that's it.

At least, I know I always use it as a joke.

Just in case anybody missed it, I was insulting Mikus for not visiting the best forums on the internet while simultaneously calling all of you stupid for using SA's throwaways.

Which you have always done, ever, dating back to Timeline and AYB. Get your own humor and quit recycling it. You people are making this forum as bad as Fark.
2004-10-26, 7:39 AM #21
I agree with Sine. It was funny the first time someone did it on the SA forums, which was at least 2 years ago. Since then, its just been annoying.
2004-10-26, 8:39 AM #22
I find the "fixed" thing annoying, as it seems to be implemented rather immaturely in debates/arguments, but the "quoted for truth" doesn't bother me.

Quote for the truth doesn't bother me one bit infact...
