Ofcourse, we Canadians pay a tax on recordable media such as blank CDs as a way to pay the music industry for downloading of music. And soon that tax will apply to HDs, flash media cards and that sort of thing too.

It's exactly the same in Finland, and P2P downloading of copyrighted material is legal here as well. Downloading music for personal use is considered similar to recording something on the radio.

No, no, and no. If you've been downloading copyrighted games/other software thinking it was legal, you've been wrong, no matter how Finnish you are. Downloading copyrighted audio and video is legal in Finland, but not software. Go to http://www.finlex.fi or something.

Yeah, theres another reason for me to move to canada after college...

Oh, and I know in some cases (movies and games) its not cool to pirate stuff, but from monopolies like the RIAA and programs such as Photoshop that have no Personal Use version for cheaper than the $600+ commercial versions that they sell.. its not like they cant expect for people to pirate it... no one wants to pay $600 to add a little touch to thier site or art.

I got photoshop for free a Legit version too. One of my tutors at college said basically said "We've got a few space licences, who wants one" I dont know if it's any more legal than downloading it. But i'd think it is.

Well the NDP is a socialist political party, as they believe in public ownership of things. Depending on where you live the "amount" of socialism will vary. In BC, some crown corperations include BC Hydro, ICBC, BC Rail (Until recently). These are all companies that are controlled by the government, and that tends to keep prices down for the consumer. Hydro prices are a fraction of what they are in some places because the Government is able to operate it without being as profit hungry as a private corperation would. (Because the government has better ways to bleed you dry other than through your power bill. That's what Income Tax and GST are about).
