FTP Client Question
2004-04-07, 9:36 PM #1
Ok here's the thing. Basically i use and rather love FileZilla. However, it would be very convenient to have a context-menu in explorer [like for 7-zip and all those to zip or extract or whatever] when i right-click a file to be able to ftp it to a specified server and/or directory. Ideally this would interface with FileZilla somehow, but that isn't strictly necessary. It's just that i have a rather eclectic collection of files on my server and so isn't entirely orderly or whatever updating or adding new ones.

I would be very surprised if there wasnt an ftp client out there that had this feature, although I personally dont know of one. Try looking around on download.com to see what they have to offer.

Personally, when it comes to ftp, because I am lazy, I use built in ftp client in Explorer.

Just a thought, this might not work:
Can your FTP Client be invoked from the command line with a server and filename, and connect to that server, upload the file and disconnect?
If it can, you might be able to rig up a shortcut in your Send To folder that did this.

I use smartftp. It's a great app. Shareware for commercial use, but personal use is still free.

It has a lot of features, maybe what you want is hidden on a context menu somewhere.

CuteFTP does that. Of course I'm using an old version from a modem disk I have.

I know WinSCP works with SFTP protocals, no reason it shouldn't work with just normal FTP.

Many default ftp clients in linux have a lot of advanced features through the command line. The default linux one doesn't have that, plus, it's harder to GET TO a command line in windows - esp. considering most people use the gui to navigate their files/folders, and then when they find the one they want that way, they don't want to open a command line and again navigate to where the file is and ftp upload it manually. That would be annoying.

Gir could you expound on that a bit. Could just use the basic dos/windows ftp command really for that, just not sure how much argumentage it can take.
