Need a new case...
2004-10-28, 8:14 AM #1
Yea, due to some complications with my old one I'm looking for a new case. I'd like it to fit the following specs:

- ATX Form (to fit an AMD64 mobo)
- Silver front with blue or black siding
- Side window with Blue LED light and fan
- Power supply doesn't matter, I already have one
- Under or about $45
- Preferably cheap shipping costs

Thanks for your help.

Anything by antec. Cases are mostly just preference. And this really does belong in the tech forum. For the 50th time.

Chieftec makes good cases too, Antec buys many parts (if not entire chassis) from them. I prefer some of the Chieftec design to Antec, but both are good. Chenming has quite a nice selection of well engineered aluminum mid towers for fairly cheap, I was looking at those for my mini-server I'm building from old components. Lian-Li makes some of the best, nicest looking cases (very clean, slick) but tend to be expensive. Stay away from Thermaltake. Not only are they ugly, but poorly engineered (fan intakes with no holes in the plastic for example).

Yeah, Thermaltake makes good heatsinks, good fans, and good PSU's (I believe), but their cases are horrible. Also stay away from offbrand.

Yea, Antec is way out of my price range, and I couldn't find any Chaintec. I did find these though that I thought looked kinda cool. They don't have the blue light but I'll settle for purple. Let me know what you think and if these are good brands or not.

They dont look good. Prices like that, you will get a really poor quality case, like flimsy materials. You get what you pay for really, I paid 100$ for a nice Chieftec silver dragon case, all steel, really nice

Yea, well for around $40, can I do better than that?

Yea, that fits like none of my guidelines. And I'm looking for something that'll last me a couple of years, not a lifetime. To kinda clarify, I'm looking for something that mainly looks cool, but is about the same quality as a case that comes with a standard DELL, e-machines, hp, or whatever.

Chieftec, not Chaintec. The Aspire X-Dreamer line is decent for the price as well.

And actually, Thermaltake makes pretty piss poor heatsinks. They have a few that are good, but usually the build quality is just terrible (poor brazing of copper fins to the copper base on the Volcano 10+). And their fans they just buy from China and put their name on them (just like everyone else). Not sure about their PSUs.

So yea, sorry to bump this thread again, but I just want to get clear if those cases I listed in my previous post were at least of equal quality to a standard case you would get if you were to buy like a new PC from Dell, hp, or whoever.
