I saw a hilarious bumper sticker today

It had a pic of the American flag on the left and on the right:
"If you are going to burn our flag wrap yourself up in it first."

I thought that was pretty darn funny.

I don't get it...

Actually, maybe I do get it. But is there anything to it beyond "People who burn flags suck, I hope they die?" But that's not really that funny (and not because of my political views).

Maybe there's some pun or deeper meaning that I missed.

You're lame. It's a joke. Just like the joke with the harvard guy jumping out of a plane with a kids backpack. It's not about the harvard guy dieing for being an egotistical sob. It's a joke, it's funny.

It's not funny.

Where is the joke? Is it something that over-patriotic Americans only get?
"Jayne, this is something the Captain has to do for himself"

"N-No it's not!"

"Oh."
2004-10-28, 6:54 PM #5
I don't find that very funny just overly patriotic.

As a comedian once said "Some people don't like bumper stickers but I do. It's a shortcut. Bumper stickers say 'Hey, let's never hang out.'"

It's not...it's like saying "If you're going to shoot me, at least point the gun at yourself first." See? Just dumb. :p

the reason it's not funny is not because of some political meaning, or because it involves death, it's just not funny cuz It's not really funny. To me. You might not think the things I find funny are, and that's fine :).

That's what I said in my first post, but he hated me anyway. :[

You're lame. The version with Bill Gates is obviously better.

I think we should burn things more often.

There's also sort of a contradiction because the people who are opposed to flag burning are the people who wrap themselves in the flag.
It's not the side effects of cocaine, so then I'm thinking that it must be love

The owner of the car is expressing the idea that people who excercise one of their civil rights should die for it.

Not funny.

At all.

Wow, you all need to stop being such jack***es. If you don't have anything nice to say STFU. I wouldn't say it's funny, but I've never seen a thread with more self-righteous tripe. Well done.

I'm not going to defend myself about the jackass thing, since you are very well right. However, if no one ever said what sometimes has to be said, resulting in the whitewashing of language, this world would be full of mental nutjobs and tyrants whom no one opposes. Sorry if you feel the need to cover your ears and hum your favorite tune everytime someone disagrees with you.

Since I don't like participating in silly debates, I'll try to steer this baby into a "post a bumper sticker you liked" topic:

"Infidel. And proud of it."

I thought it was funny. Reminds me of this:
<Lyme> I got Fight Club for 6.98 at walmart.
<Black_Bishop> I am Jack's low price guarantee

I thought it was a commentary of the irony of those who burn flags in protest claiming to love their country. Y'know, because the flag is symbolic of the country and burning it would therefore be symbolic of its destruction, which is not exactly the act of someone who loves said country.

But maybe I'm reading too much into it.

*The above statement does not in any way imply that I support legislation making flag-burning illegal. Free expression is good, even when the expression expressed is not.

I saw an interesting bumpersticker the other day... On the back of an SUV speeding past me doing 75 in a 55 zone, was a huge pink sticker that said "MADONNA". And right next to it, one that said "KERRY/EDWARDS".

Typical.
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.
