...Luck, that is.

I'm off today to pick up my 1978 Pontiac Firebird Esprit from Farmington, CT. If I can get it running, I'm going to attempt to drive it the two hours and fifteen minutes back home. Of course, I have been warned that its brakes weren't working right when it was taken off the road, and that its battery is quite dead. And to make matters more... Interesting, I will be taking this drive at night, on winding back-roads, still wet from todays rain (if it even stops by then...).

But it's worth it. She's absolutely beautiful. She's dark green, with her body in almost perfect shape, and the interior has only two minor things wrong with it. I've even choosen a name for her (although it's not really a female name): Switchblade.

Anyhoo, wish me luck.

Bring a friend. Make the ride home a party.

please do not use the word Anyhoo, it makes my knife slip.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

I would STRONGLY sugggest you get the brakes fixed before you drive that thing home. The brakes on those cars weren't good enough to begin with, don't make it worse.

Congrats though! Take pics if you make it home.

Slick, winding back roads? Be careful, that perfect condition can change REAL FAST if your not careful.
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

Dead topic revival? Sort of. But I figured it would be more efficient if I just brought this one back up, rather than start a whole new one.

I did it. Me and some friends went Saturday afternoon to see if we could get the Firebird to go. As it turns out, all it needed to run was a new battery and some tranny fluid. The brakes ended up not being a problem, and I drove it home without issue. She is gorgeous now that I've washed her off, and she purrs like a kitten. 'Course, I need to slap a bigger engine (350) and complimentary parts (tranny, drivetrain, shocks, etc.) before she'll be truly sweet...

I don't have a digital camera, so I can't post any pictures as yet, however, I have taken some with a regular camera, so I'll post those once I get the roll developed. Hell, I'll probably start a post your cars thread or something like that.

And thanks to everyone who gave me luck. It may have rained and fogged, but I made it back safely, and that's what counts.
