Woot... to quote LOTR FOTR "even the smallest person can change the course of the future..." woot!

I got there at 5:30 and I finally got into the voting booth at 10pm. I just got home. so yeah it took 5 hours, and this is just early voting, i cant even imagine how bad its' gonna be tommorrow.

First this is a huge election but secondly florida is such a critical state. They had a news reporter out there videotaping us and they were out giving out free bottled waters etc. Peoples friends were bringing them food as they waited in lines and they were getting chairs etc.

My sister voted over in Gainesville FL and it only took her 2 hours. Well this was my first election and it was crazy , but I got my "i voted" sticker and i'm wearing it proudly. I even asked the lady for more!

Well godspeed to my canidate. woot!

Wow. That's insane. No wonder Florida is so screwed up. Last time I voted, it only took me about 2 or 3 minutes from the time I got out of my car to the time I was getting back in to drive back home.

Some lady got there 2 or 3 minutes after they closed the lines and they wouldnt let her stand in line and she was all pissed off.

I earned my "I voted" sticker dagnabit! haha

Please...just please stop using "woot" 5 times in each post. Besides...it's "w00t" not "woot"

There is the midterm election in 2006.

Florida is opening its polls a day early or did you vote absentee?

Oooh what a day tomorrow will be. I, for one will be glad it's over. But I'll be sure to stock lots of ethanol-based beverages...just in case :p

Jedi: there has been early voting for a couple of days now. I didn't want to do an absentee ballot incase they lost it in the mail or something like that.

Noble: Yeah after waiting that long I wasnt leaving until I voted. They started closing the library down and were saying that if we wanted to check out books it was the last couple of minutes because they were closing the library, and all of us are like, as long as we get to stay and vote it's fine. This guy behind me was like "i'm not leaving, you'll be seeing CNN here because everyone is going to refuse to leave"

We were all joking around, literally everyone in line became friends. The lady behind us was there with her mother (senior citizen) the people in front of us, have these 2 little boys.

I mean it was pretty funny stuff, as people would finish voting, when they'd walk out people would cheer. I even got a cheer when I walked out, i was smiling all big and this guy was like "Woohoo!" and clapping haha

i've nevere herd of early voting(except absentee though the mail)... of cource there is only 4 milion people in my state.
Laughing at my spelling herts my feelings. Well laughing is fine actully, but posting about it is not.

Frankly, Boricua is in the running for most smilies per post. That's a good thing. lucky_jackpot has had that title clamped down for too long now. He needs some competition. :)

yeah well i'm a happy person, but regardless if it's gonna start a huge "thing" i'll just cut back on the use of smilies and what have you.

But yes Florida had early voting. It's been for at least a week I believe

Woah... You really have to queue up to vote? That's crazy. You'd be looking at 10-15 minutes absolute most anywhere in Australia.

I'm probably the first person to say this, but Florida needs a better voting system :p

why don't you vote absentee to avoid all that?
That's what I did.

I am getting to the polls at 6:45am to avoid the line. Then I can wear my "I voted" pin to school :D

Just with all of the things that have happened in Florida, I wanted to make sure to personally put my vote into the ballot box. I was afraid if I sent it in, who knows what could have happened with the mail system, especially with these elections being so big, who knows who could go through the mail or steal ballots etc. (that sounds extreme, but after last election I didn't want to run any chances)

I didn't mind waiting all that much. By the end of it everyone in line was really tired, but also really excited to vote. It is kind of crazy waiting that long, but at least my vote is being counted. So I guess it's a trade off (but it would have been nice if the line hadnt had been so long) :)

We're using scantrons...scantrons here in San Diego County. I would not like to be the person getting all the crap if a lot of votes are tossed out because of incomplete or lightly filled in bubbles. I thought the electronic method during the primaries was good. Will we please pick a voting method and stick with it!

yeah. We had that here too. The difference is you use pen instead of pencil.

We still have the famous "hanging chad" machines here, but the state is not exactly highly contested, what with ~60% in favor of Bush.. so it's not like a few hanging chads will matter.

I always use the early voting method. It's on for a week, or something, and it's so easy to just go and vote when ever you want. And if there are serious lines, I can just turn around and come back later. I don't exactly love to spend even half an hour in line...

No wonder, after spending so much time in there...

Is it true you guys have to read a two page long ballot and check a bunch of cases rather than just checking "bush" or "kerry"?

This guy on the radio this morning came up with a brilliant but depressing metaphor of the current situation; Bush represents a brick wall for america. John Kerry represents a brick wall with a miniature hole in it.
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

Yes. There are elections going on at state and local level as well, which are included on the ballot. Also, amendments concerning the state constitutions must also be voted on.

Looks like they've already had to start doing recounts in Florida:

I voted in Kentucky at about 08:00 AM EST. I was in and out in around 20 minutes. I live in a rural area and had the priviledge of listening to the farmer-types voicing their anti-gay propaganda. Bush wins my state whether I vote or not...so +1 Nader, baby!

That's it, somebody arm the nuclear warheads. One more slip up and Florida will no longer exist.

I just got back too. The polling place was 20 feet from my apartment building (I didn't even have to leave the parking lot), and I only had to wait for one old man to finish his vote. So w00t. Got in at 10:00 and got out at 10:10 AM. :)

And because I'm not ashamed of it, I voted straight party Democrat for everything. So nyah. :p
