Mummify came in 19th, not 4th :p

My horse, Elvstroem, came in 4th. Had $20 each way on him, $5 on Distinction for a win, and $10 on Makybe Diva for a win as a hedging bet. Thankfully Makybe Diva won at $4.10, so I pretty much broke even. Damn shame Elvstroem didnt do a little better, though.

BLOODY STUPID horse

I didn't even realise it was Melbourne cup day until someone asked me if I had placed a bet, at which point I looked at her blankly and asked "why would I be betting?". This was at about 2pm. I'm not too sure why everyone gets so excited about this particular race, seems like every other horse race to me.

Because we get a public holiday to go with it.

The Melbourne Cup and international soccer tournaments (read: Euro and the World Cup) are the only things I'll place a bet on. Call it tradition.

We don't get the public holiday up here but there was still a decent number of people who were very excited about today. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it's just weird that people who take no interest in horse racing through the rest of the year, suddenly get so into it, just because its Melbourne cup.

But then I regularly forget about other events like: easter, christmas, new years, my birthday etc so perhaps I'm not the best judge of these things

I've been saying for the past week that Makybe Diva would get up and forgot to place a bet. Oh well.

Didn't matter anyway as some joker squeezed super glue into the door locks of 19 TABs before opening time. :p
