On the card should be a URL to which you go to and select how you're going to redeem it.

would that require reactivation each time, or would it be in a perma-activated state when you download it?

uh... if you log into the steam account which you purchased HL2 and CS with you can just download it again...

ok which is less of a headache... copying gcf files from a DVD or downloading over 3GB of files through steam?

or for the entire silver package (except for anything that will be downloaded when hl2 is released and dod:s) 7.2GB just for the gcf files

i'm not counting custom content like maps and skins

It takes 10 minutes for everyone, CS Source isn't 3GB, it's all that Condition Zero crap that adds up to 4 GB. Just download what you play, and please, for the love of god, tell me you aren't playing Condition Zero.

CS:Source is under 500 megs or something.

CS:S is 900-some megs.

HL2 is what takes up all of that space. My Steam folder is 4 gigs, most of that is the HL2 preloaded files.

The 5 gcf's for HL2 report 3,29 gigs used.

And CS:S --

I'll be fine downloading it again, seeing as I don't have a CD burner on this PC. Also, does anyone know how to activate the console in game?
