Alright I'm here to rant. I figure this is the best place cause you guys typically have some pretty thought out views.

As many of you might know I am Canadian along with a few others on these boards. I'm also completely appaled by the views of some people. This South Park Canada suck **** is getting on my nerves really... Canada is not a bad place to live. We are democracy just like the United States I don't know about you but when I cross the boarder there isn't much diffrence between the two countries not enough to start bashing.

I had someone tonight say that Canada wasn't a democracy and just England's ***** alright well apparently some people don't know anything about Canada, so I'll set some of the record streight. Yes we are democracy we hold a vote not exactly but similar to yours. We seperated from England peacefully and became our own country. Just because we didn't pick up arms and start a war doesn't mean we didn't seperate and become independent.

Another thing that pisses me off more than anything is the fact that when I mention that I am proud to be part of this country I am smacked down and made fun off by Americans. But God forbid in this time of war someone makes fun of America. To be honest I can't speak for any other Canadians here but I am proud to be part of this country and I am personally insulted when someone insults the country that I am apart of.

But of course there is more to this rant, the jokes about the Canadian millitary are funny I agree. I don't mind them, our military compared to the United States of America is nothing. But to be perfectly honest it has kept us safe for sometime whatever it's doing. Canadian's troops serve with just as much pride as any America troop in the task that they are assigned. I know alot of people in the military alot of men over Afganistan in the peace keeping force that Canada has over there and I don't think they should be mocked as much as they are honestly... they risk their lives just the same as any other armed force for the country that they are proud to be apart of.

Well that's about it, these are my views on something that is really starting to annoy me. If you want we can disscus this for fun it's actually the reason why I posted and all. :)

I think most of what you here around here is simple joking, there are enough canadians around here to keep the record straight. as for people in the real world well... if you're not going to go homocidal you're going to have to learn how to deal with idiots.

Well, the only reason America picked up arms and fought was because ol' Georgey was being an as****. We tried for decades for a diplomatic and peaceful solution. Finally we broke.

But aside from that--if you can't take people making fun of your country in a silly manner, you need to die. Seriously. People joke on Canada all the time, but it's not that bad of a place, and everyone knows that. Also, your guys' government IS democratic, but you guys are very socialist in your economy. This could throw people off. Last but not least--if you take anything from South Park seriously, you need to be shot.

Us Brits have always prefered both the canadians as a people and canada as a country to the Americans and their land. (apart from New England :p)

But to be fair, South Park is hilllllarrrrrrious!!

I remember a certain thread in which I stated that Canada > USA and in went down in flames. But we're supposed to take it lightly when people say the opposite. **** it.

Canada kicks *** as much as any other country. 'Cause we have poutine :D And good beer :D

You didn't really win the revolutionary war... We just got lazy (like usual. Hey, we're canadian) and decided not to chase you off when you ran (at least one of the battles would've been like that..)

EDIT: Know what I can't stand? AMERICANS THAT THINK POUNTINE SOUNDS GROSS. THEY NEED TO DIE. VERY VERY SLOWLY. BY POUNTINE.

Though you have to remember the only reason quebec didn't join america was because england bribed them with the ohio valley - Stupidest move in history, because ohio was lost to the americans just a few weeks later. Everyone was pissed off at the brittish, tired of the oppression, and wanted to join in, but there wasn't exactly much of a democracy yet.

I agree with you. People do it because they will think they are cool, and actually know nothing.. the ignorant fools they are.

They are bandwagon jumpers of a 'trend' started by southpark and jokes about the militarry.. no one can actually provide solid proof you guys do suck.

Don't worry about what people say, they are idiots.

erm, actually the American Revolution was the product of propaganda wizards. The Boston Massacre? 3 or so people died. The Stamp Act and everything is like our postal service raising the rates by a couple pennies. It's just the propagandists made catch-phrases like "No Taxation Without Representation!"

It sounded like one of those.... EXAGGERATIONS!

Jokes about some country should only be responded with jokes, if responded at all. I think most people are patriotic to some degree, yet people who are genuinely proud of their country can accept jokes because those jokes can't really harm their believes. However, if they are unsure of their country, they can't stand even jokes. But if you respond to jokes by starting to bash the joker's country in all seriousness, you will have a flame war.

And besides, I doubt there are any neighbouring countries that aren't stacked with jokes about the neighbours.

Hearing "Your country sucks ***, you guys are all stupid" isn't really funny, and it's hard to believe that it's a joke.

The ultimate irony is that the average Brit knows NOTHING about the Revolutionary War, that part of history simply isn't covered in most History classes unless you specifically choose to do so. I'm sure we would be bitter if we actually knew anything about what happened, but we really just don't care :p

We like Canadians because they say "Z" right.

I agree that it is very annoying when you here the same jokes at every possible time for them, it's just not funny and is downright annoying when you might actually want to have a sensible discussion without the inevitable stereotype joke. A joke is funny the first few times, after that it starts irritating people.

Ah. I agree. But I wasn't talking about plain idiots, but just ordinary people telling jokes. So, maybe my post wasn't so relevant considering the original idea of this thread, after all. Sorry.

What exactly is this stuff about being separted from englans? When were you joined, as far as i know (from history class) Canada was mostly populated by the scottish crofters that were forced off their land when the land-owners wanted more money by replacing them with sheep. Thousands of crofts then moved to canada for a new life or moved o big industrial cities such as glasgow, but mostly went to canada, they were populated by good folk, not those ****s from down south.
nope.

I and all the other Americans on this board know this. But we do our best to stay civil (for the most part). Trust me, it really hurts when people talk badly about my country in the way that some of you have, but I realize that a lot of it, unfortunately, is warranted.

We're not all like that. Mostly, but not all. And if you say otherwise, I'll carve my name and address on your stomach with a broken bottle.

Canada is cool. Ordinary Brits don't care about America. And how do you correctly say Z then? Zee or Zed?

Oh, and we English don't have much now. As I understand it, both Wales and Scotland have their own parliaments (not too sure about Wales, though, and only partially as they don't have full powers), Australia's just down there, sharing royalty. Both Canadia and America went aaaaages ago, and Hong Kong buggered off in 1999 or so.
