My mom...

...has problems. For tomorrow she has planned a cleaning of the house. Now, I can understand that she asks me to do a few things but my sister, who is 17, is completely tied up in other things. She is working on scholarships, is registering her first car, is going to the hair trade show with her mentor, and babysits just about every night.

So tonight we pick my sister up from her friend's house where she had been working on scholarship essays. We get home and right away my mom rips into my sister about my sister not doing all the chores that she's "supposed" to do. Apparently a few of the movies weren't put into their cases correctly.

Now, a little background - my mother just lost her job because for the year she held it she was late to work by at least five minutes 75% of the time and she made a major mistake in scheduling that cost the school she worked at about $1000. My mother also just blew $1300 on furniture that we did not need but she wanted because it would make the front room of our house look like a model home. My mother also has not paid for health insurance for my sister. On top of wasting money and not taking care of what needs to be, my mother lost our house because she did not worl for 18 months before she got the job she just lost - she did not work because she would not work "below herself." Now, those actions are pretty stupid but lately she has stopped taking Zoloft and is going through menopause so we never know when she's going to snap.

About the chores... so after my mom rips into my sister, who like I said above is extremely busy, she ran over and started spanking my sister. My mother almost burst out laughing after spanking my sister. My sister then burst into tears and ran to her room. My mom had this huge smile on her face like what she had just done was perfectly timed and appropriate for a joke. I'm pissed.

So I yelled at my mom. "What the fvck is wrong with you? Don't you think the ***** you've been doing lately is stupid enough? Lindsey (my sister) is pissed off enough as it is! Do you think spanking her was a good idea? Shake the ***** from your brain and don't talk to her for a little while! Now I'm going to take a *****."

So I did my business and when I'm done my mother is at my sister's bedroom door with a big smile on her face trying to apologize. Now it sounds like my sister is packing her stuff up. She's pulling drawers out and I hear zippers.

Well, I can't say I didn't see it coming. If Lindsey does go to stay somewhere else then I'll probably leave as well. The only reason I've stayed the past few months is to help out my mom financially. :(

One of my friends is kind of in the same situation. His dad lost his job and wouldnt even think of working until another job in the same field came along because it was below him. Almost had to sell his house and move to some hickland but his dad just got a job recently, although I think his parents are planning on moving to Maryland when he starts college next year.

I can understand to a point your situation.

My mother would tear us a new one often too. Although she was more fiscally responsible and did keep us clothed and fed and a roof over our heads. She was definitely diligent in that. But heaven forbid she has a terrible day @ work. And if not one thing is done to specs, ohhh boy do I hear it.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

My mom has a broken back that she's lived with for 30 years, and it's gotten so bad that she can't drive a car anymore. She's on painkillers and awaiting surgery. :\

Oh wait, this thread is a different kind. Well, I'm sure you're in the right. Hope she turns uncrazy or something. :(

Just a friendly reminder, might want to stop trying to avoid the swear filter. It's pretty easy to figure out what you're trying to say if you just let it put *****.

Sounds like a nervous breakdown, midlife crisis and menopause all rolled into one.

Most likely needs to seek help..

What the **** are you talking about? :p

On topic: Good luck Mith, I thought my mom could be wacko but she doesn't hold a candle to yours.

At her age you think she would know a little more about responsibility.

Meh, my dad needs a job too. He gets so obsessed about anything that comes up that he ends up blowing it. He needs a job of some kind, whether it is "below him" or not. Good luck.

I'd say that your mother is suffering from some rather severe mental ailments. Given that you said she' going through menopause, this comes as no suprise. (as would be in any case where the body was undergoing any serious change involving large quanitites of hormones) I'd reccomend trying to do everything within your power to get her to see a physician, or better yet, a psychologist. Her going off of Zoloft is a bad sign as well; I suspect that she acted much more in control (read: sane) when she was on it. I wish you the best of luck on this issue.

Those hormone changes during menopause will drastically alter your mother's though process, and will make it difficult for her to rationalize and think as she normally would. I would recommend that she see a doctor about getting artificial hormones until menopause has passed. (That's what my mom's doing.)

Also, she need to keep taking the Zoloft.

Yes, I have been trying to convince my mom to see a doctor about hormones and for counseling. She thinks she's fine and that we are just treating her badly all the time. Anyway, when I do discuss this with her she says she 'feels better' when she isn't taking her meds. :(
