Does anyone remember time when people actually had discussions in the chat? When intelligence ran high? The Golden Years of Massassi?

I woke up today and checked the chat and to be honest it was almost this stupid.

I ask you where the hell did the intelligence go? I mean I remember when I first came here a few years back and there was like 8 man JK games going on. The chat got silly yes but not brain dead. There were conversations not people writing immature one line sentences that make no sense in an attempt to make their moron buddies laugh? I ask you? WHAT HAPPEND!?

i talk to myself aloud when theres other people around... it just seems a little too crazy to mumble to yourself completely on your own.

i transfer it to typing for #massassi... that way i can kid myself that someone is paying attention and i seem a little less of a crank.

The golden years for me was 3 years ago or so, when I guy called MetallicaRob aka RobX would make animated gifs of me as a monkey eating leaves of my crotch.

Also in that time: how to piss people off, what's the weather where you live, and the dozens of NT topics. Ah yep, golden years.

Someone needs to bring back the pissing off topic.

I've always understood that to be the entire point of IRC. People talk, assume other people are listening, when really everyone is only paying attention to their own stuff.

Nostalgia just isn't as good as it used to be. Bring back the old #massassi, so that we can reminisce about the even older #massassi.

I'm wondering what happened to the Golden Age of the Forums? For the past few months, it appears as though things are slipping into chaos. Endless flaming, useless topics, even more useless replies, and mods are not doing anything to stop this.

The chat is pretty dead. We have some fun, and sometimes we do have interesting convos. But in the last year or so, we've gotten pretty boring. Now it's just a lobby for private chats. It's still really nice to have real-time discussions when they eventually arise. Especially since no one can quote you like crazy, ala the forums.

As for actual conversations etc, you jsut have to on at the right time.
Yes you'll get silly/stupid things, but that's generally when theres nothing going on anyway and people are bored out of their minds.
If you want real conversation try starting something yourself.
I've seen plenty of good discussions in #massassi myself.

Last time I entered the chat (oh, about 4 years ago :p) my computer had a heart attack and started generating multiple copies of myself in the chat, for the which I was promptly booted. Haven't been back since.

well, there still is one nice little chat haven of intellegince and good will (well, most of the time) in a closely related channel, but as for #massassi, well, yeah. there's a reason i haven't visited for more then 5 minutes in the past month.

I know what you mean. When I first got here it seemed like people were constantly going on about how great it used to be. But then in the space of a couple of years, I find myself thinking about it being better (maybe it's because I'm not idolised anymore!! :p). It's just the way of the world, people remember the good and forget the bad..
