Ok there's probably been another thread about it, but it just came out here in Australia.

How good is that movie?

Great story, good acting, amazing cinematography and choreography, and awesome sword fights.

Hollywood action movie makers could really learn a thing or two from movies like Hero. Fight scenes are not cooler when they're filmed up close, shaking violently, and constantly switching perspectives. Wide-angle where you can see all the fighters, slow-panning, and long shots are way more involving and thrilling. Hero did them to perfection.

I've seen far too many potentially dazzling fight scenes ruined by crappy camera work. Hopefully the international release of movies like Hero will teach movie makers how to properly shoot a fight sequence.

kung fu movies kick *** a solid amount, they're always 99x better than the latest machinegun explosionfest that hollywood puts out.

and yes, the story and cinematography are wonderful, a great way to top off great action... characters you actually care about though, although i thought Sky could have had a bigger role.

Absolutely loved it. The use of color was really cool.

The story was pretty basic, but the meaning was still good. The use of color made the movie what it was. Had they not used it so artistically the movie would have failed.

What is wrong with the rest of the world? This was on general release here nearly two years ago! :)

Other than the somewhat shallow story (once you remove the gimmick), and the mildly pro-totalitarian praise (look up what the real Qin Shi Huangdi did), I thought it was very nice.

It's great how when they make movies in China where they need to have hundreds upon hundreds of extras, if the government approves the film (hmmmm) then they get to use thousands of PRC Army soldiers as extras.

If you're interested in seeing another viewpoint of the same legend (attempted assassination of the first Qin emperor), in a more Shakespearean King Lear type manner, you might want to rent The Emperor and the Assassin. This movie is far more critical of the emperor than Hero. The palace set that Hero uses was built for the production of The Emperor and the Assassin.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

Wow, I wonder what kind of movies you usually watch! 97% of Hollywood movies have a story far more basic than this movie. I agree many European movies may have a plot to match this, though.

Yeah, I love this movie as much as I love LOTR.

Awesome movie. The use of color was interesting.
I bet you think that's funny, don't you.

I saw the trailer; I must question the marketing guy who decided this movie would be best advertised with a hip-hop soundtrack and a black voice over dude. That's just trying a LITTLE too hard to be "hip"...

Never saw this before, is it only in Australia or something? I do want to see this.....

As for the movie, yeah it's very artiscally done.

Can't find a link, sorry. It was on Australian TV that I saw it. It was pretty hilarious, but then again, I suppose rap WAS pretty popular two thousand years ago in China...

But then again, people don't complain about classical music in movies set before the 17th century, either. Strange how classical can "fit" in just about any movie, but hip hop or metal or something would seem terribly out of place.
