Handwriting to font?
2004-11-07, 9:05 PM #1
Hey, I've spent the past hour looking for a way to turn my handwriting into a font and have failed to find anything that really works. Does anybody have experience with this?

Ah, and I have no intention of paying money for it.

Meh, if you posted this about a month ago I could have posted something for you. It DOES exists.. I don't remember what the program was called though, or who it was by.

Try searching a bit longer, it is out there.

Fontifier will do it for you for $9, they include a form to print out, write the letters in, and scan and send to them and they do the rest. Though I'm sure there are some free font making programs out there.

There's a fully-functional trial. I just did it.

I think he means something like scanning a page of written notes and turning them into a text document...

I don't think that anything could do it reliably. OCR might reconize some symbols, but the rest of it would probably turn out s***, depending on how bad your writing is.

A scanner I purchased a while back came with the software, I never really used it, but it does indeed exist.

Upon re-reading, it looks like that is what he wanted indeed, and cool!

If you're looking for something to turn your handwriting into typed text, give up and start typing now. We have ultra-top of the line scanners and software worth over $100,000 at work which are designed to read handwriting on forms, they get it right maybe 50% of the time. They miss anything less than perfect block capitals, and even then they usually get Ls and 1s, 5s and Ss etc confused.

Yeah when I got my scanner it came with some OCR stuff - I printed a page of text from the program and then rescanned it in, and it got like 50% accuracy. I don't know why they bother with that stuff.
