I beat doom3.

I have been trying for about a week to beat the cyberdemon, and i finally did it tonight.Prior to this, the ******* either smashed me, blew me to pieces, or knocked me off of the ledge into the big pit in the middle or into the lava.

The first time I faced the cyberdemon, I made the mistake of blasting away at it with the BFG, not knowing that I had to use the soul cube. I finally figured it out, but it was a pain to get in front of the portal/pit thing, and wait for the smaller demons to crawl out so I could waste them to charge the cube, avoiding the cyberdemon in the process.

The ending was pretty good, though, especially the cyberdemon death sequence, and finding out what happened to Bertruger.

All in all, I enjoyed the game, although I developed a most special hatred for Trites. The damn things attacked in swarms, and they were quite annoying b/c i had to make sure i got all of them when I cleared out an area. Ticks were not as bad b/c they were rare.

SPOILERS *********

What do you mean spoilers? The game has been out for about 3 months now, I would be surprised if no one here has played it yet, much less beat it. It took me about 2.5 weeks to play through it b/c i don't have much time to play.

Not really, one of my most loved part of a game is figuring how to defeat a difficult boss, there goes the final boss of Doom 3

Sorry to spoil it for you.

After you watch it eat all of your BFG and rocket ammo with impunity, you would probably figure it out eventually.

BTW, where are you in the game?

be sure to get at least a radeon 9600. I have a 9200, and I had to turn shadows off to get a decent framerate. :(

Other than that, the game plays smoothly.

Its not like its hard to figure out... I mean you get the legends all the way through the game.

For me it was easy. First time I saw him, I fired a test shot at him. The reticule didnt go red, so I figured that aint gonna work.

So I ran backwards shooting at the local inhabitants until I got 5 kills, fired the soul cube, et al.

Yeah I did the same thing you did with reciticle. Once I realized this I kept hitting him with the soul cube.

Although now that I beat Doom 3..... I want more SP goodness!!!! Thankfully I saw something about their being an expansion at GameFAQs!

As nice as my Athlon64 and PC 3200 DDR SDRAM are, my Radeon 7000 simply won't cut it for Doom3; it isn't even of a recent enough generation for the game! I posted what cards I'm looking at in another thread a few minutes ago, and I theorietically have the money for even the X800 XT. (but purchasing it isn't likely) once I get the card upgrade, I will relish in the l33t-ness of Doom3, and then Half-Life 2.

I thought something else....

Anyway, does anyone else think the SoulCube weapon was quite disappointing?

how do you figure?

Every 5 kills, you get a free instant kill. Whats so bad about that?

I thought the soul cube puzzle with the cyberdemon was cheap. I wanted to blast that mofo back to hell with the BFG, not have to kill 5 imps then use the damned sould cube :(

Haven't played it. Don't want to play it.

It isn't my type of game.

I played it up until the first imp. Then I had to stop. Too frickin' scary. Then again I was playing it in my friend's theater room... 7.1 sound and 10 foot wide screen... Almost had a heart attack.

I did it in 2, but I played almost nonstop. That was the only time a game has ever kept me that entertained to beat it so quickly.

This game scares me. I'm in Hell right now, and dear lord is it ever creepy.

Never, EVER, play Doom 3 in a dark room. I'm not going to be able to sleep now.

Now you tell me. I did that early on, and I nearly needed new pants a few times.

Playing in the dark was great. Entering a new dark room in the game always had me scared. Only game to ever do that for me.

For some odd reason... it didn't scare me as much as I would've hoped. I mean I did jump because a demon would be right in my face, but that was only because I didn't want him to take a swipe at me.

Seconded :D - I'm glad that these spoiler tags have been introduced and that I spot threads late after a recent absence - albeit it didn't help Mikus much, it would appear... ;) :p

In fact at the moment, anything would be better than mine - due to my decent laptop (about 2yrs old now) playing up with both network and display driver issues, I've been forced onto a (significantly inferior) machine I built out of spare parts - P3 500MHz, 2PCI card slots (one of which is occupied with a 4Mb graphics card, because the onboard card died ...) and because it's a small-form-factor (SFF) machine, there's virtually nothing else I can place into it (can't even replace the power-supply because it's a special type, considering both chassis casing size and mobo  *sigh*)

... and you think you've got it bad... :p ;). I so miss the "money" aspect of doing an industrial year...
