It's only a piece of folded paper, yet it looks like its MOVING and looking at you. The video shows it the best.

I think I'm going to have to print out the dragon and make it myself.
2004-11-09, 8:18 AM #11
Wow! I can't make the face seem concave even if I stare at it for a while.

That's exactly what I thought, only I saw it at Disneyland. The dragon is really sweet though.

I printed out the dragon and set it up on my desk. Now I got the whole office comming by and staring at the thing :D

You mean it works in 3d too? I figured they only worked because you can't see the depth.

I went into our storeroom, found a printer, and installed it just to get my own dragon thing.

It took me awhile to see it in real life, and I was starting to wonder if I'd put it together correctly. I was cocky, though, and ignored the "view from about 2 feet" instruction. That's an important step. You kind of almost have to blur your eyes for a second, like looking at one of those "magic eye" pictures, for the illusion to start working...at least, I had to.

Very cool, Sol.

Yep. I've seen the first one in person. It's kind of creepy.

With the hollow face one; iisn't that effect used in the "Haunted Mansion" ride at Disneyland? If anyone else has been there recently enough to remember, aren't there some busts in...I think the hallway to get into the carts, that are inverted like this?

I don't know, it's been 8 years since I was there, but I seem to remember thinking they were neat.
2004-11-09, 3:40 PM #22
You can remember what you saw 8 years ago but cannot what you just read 1 minute ago?
2004-11-09, 4:18 PM #23
Now those are cool. I've got a book with a lot of opticial illusions thats pretty neat. The spiraled pinwheels that look like their moving are still my favorite.

My humanities teacher showed us a house that they have in a garden museum in DC that does the same illusion as the dragon. Very neat.
Life is beautiful.

I wanna print out the dragon but I dont have PSP or Photoshop on my PC anymore. Is there any other way to get it scaled down?
I can't think of anything to put here right now.
2004-11-09, 6:07 PM #29
Irfanview

Okay, I didn't get it at first (read my first post). Now I made the dragon and I probably look pretty dumb moving my head side to side lookin at the thing. :D

Haha, yes. I printed it out and built it... and man is it cool.
2004-11-09, 7:33 PM #32
thats pretty cool, i like it when he turns it all around.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

With practice you can force your brain to view the dragon video properly and you can destroy the illusion, but it takes concentration.

I printed the dragon last night, it didn't really work till this morning, when I was looking at it in daylight from the window, instead of my dorm room lamp which screwed up the shadows I guess.

You have to close one eye to throw off depth perception.

Actually, you don't. I got mine to work, and I only need to close one eye if I'm really close to it.

You're right! I got it to work with both eyes open from across the room.

meh. I can get within 3 feet of it and it still works with both eyes open.

Or I can just take off my glasses and pretend it works. :o

I think the dragon would work a bit better in my dorm if the "top" of the head was a shade or two lighter to counteract shadows.
