Air compressor. Just make some sort of adapter to go on the end that's the right size for a tennis ball.

on the other hand.... an equal amount of fun can be had from shooting lightbulbs from catapults.

a crossbow type machine is good for this kinda thing too, fun to make anorl.

We got to play with one of those in Physics two years ago. That right there is serious fun. We went out to the football field and shot them from one goal post to the other and past it.

I haven't built one before, but it shouldn't be too hard to figure it out. You'll need a tube and a chamber at the bottom seperated by a butterfly valve that stores compressed air. Let the valve go, and out goes the tennis ball. Make sure it fits tightly in the tube, or that you have it in a sabot, otherwise it won't go very far.

Its called a "spud gun" and its fires potatoes MANY feet...

I built one last summer and it rocks. Google can tell you exactly how to build one, but be careful... they can be dangerous.

Yeh, we had to build a tennis ball catapult in my freshman year of HS. Great stuff. We also had the option of making a cannon. Go to your local ACE Hardware or Home Depot. Get some PVC pipe, a certain kind of valve (ask a store rep.), and an air compressor. Good times.

Oh, and my group built a catapult. It was adaptable to my friend's go kart so we could shaving cream balloon houses. :D

Ok here's what you do...

1- 2" Black Steel Cap ($2.25)
2- 2" x 6" Black Steel Nipple ($2.80)
3- 2" to 1.5" Reduction Coupling ($2.94)
4- 1.5" Close Nipple ($1.28)
5- 1.5" Brass Full Release Ball Valve ($41.00)
6- 1.5" Male PVC Fitting (Less than $2)
7- 5' SCH 40 330PSI WP PVC (Less than $5)

You'll need an air compressor to do this.

And so the arms race of Massassi has begun.

Who can build the best and biggest pneumatic cannon!?
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.
