I really try hard not to be emotional about politics, but I *really* dislike that ashcroft guy >:(

I think I know why:

John Ashcroft looks a lot like the cigarette smoking man from the X-Files.

Bush Picks Gonzales to Succeed Ashcroft
Quote:
WASHINGTON - With a hug and words of high praise, President Bush named Alberto Gonzales as attorney general on Wednesday, elevating the administration's most prominent Hispanic to a highly visible post in the war on terror.

There goes the neighbrhood.

Huh?

Gonzales seems like a much more moderate person than Ashcroft, so that should please the Dems a little bit.

I think Ashcroft's moving into the house next-door to MechWarrior's, bobafett765.

I thought it was going to be Speedy Gonzales, but it's only regular Gonzales. :(

Yes cause we all know his first choice of residence would be Canada.

Ah yes. I want the person that thinks the Geneva Act is outdated to be in charge of my civil liberties too!

I still want Ashcroft to be fired out of a cannon and into a bed of spikes face-first.

Also, "steps down" is a euphemism for "forced into retirement." Like that assbag would ever give up whatever fanatical totalitarian grip he could muster over the morality of average Americans without threatening his pension.

It is outdated since it doesn't deal with prisoners in fron non-declared wa actions.

... Geneva has absolutely nothing to do with your civil liberties, tofu.

Anyway, I'm glad to see him go. Picking Gonzales was smart. Bush got 44% of the hispanic vote this time around - I wouldn't be surprised if the GOP has it in the bag next time around.
A desperate disease requires a dangerous remedy.

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it gives people what they want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.

I was under the impression that the Attorney General handled domestic issues like (as stated above) civil liberties.

I never said it did, but I'm not comfortable with a man who is in charge of my civil liberties that thinks that the Geneva Convention is outmoded.
