seriously though, check out the tutorials around on the main page... and you most definately want to get JED, since that's like.. the program used, and all... if you have any questions, there's an editing forum with lots of pseudo-nice people there to answer for you

Try the JK Editing forum for starters. There are tons of tutorials posted on the main page, and the chat is always full of people, most of which can help you out. Try out #massgames if you need somebody to test a level, and chances are, if it's your first level, you shouldn't submit it to Massassi when you're done.
