Well I know I'm really going to miss what was at the heart of WinAmp... :(. Quite frankly, as far as WMP is concerned, I preferred (and
still use) mplayer2.exe for exactly the same reason that I enjoy using WinAmp - it's compact yet also uncluttered (basically it does everything you need it to).
I will confess that as far as alternatives go, I'm more and more tempted by iTunes, but I just can't bring myself to install it and replace my love for WinAmp. Heck, for the longest time imaginable, I was using v2.666 (bless those days of simplicity
*ends nostaligic moment*...), as v3 just struck me as a huge joke - WinAmp had improved with each release prior to that awful incarnation and I dare say that that release lost it many of its fans :o.
What with Sonique out of the picture now too (I always
loved their visualisations :D), t'is a sad day to see such promising software head in this direction. Truth be told, many of the same things could be said about other software: Napster in its prime being arguably the best example, spawned from a fantastic "free" idea.... but I digress... (legalities aside)
Just my two humble pennies worth

PS: Yes, I'm currently using WinAmp v5 (only for upgrades and patches more than functionality)... but it's just not 2.666
