Pre-made computer manufacturers
2004-11-11, 6:14 PM #1
After 4 years with a computer system, only riding with the current standard of technology through a memory and video card upgrade but now falling behind, I decided to hunt for an optimal system to buy since I don't have the time to build my own. I was looking around for the pre-made manufacturers and stumbled on this one that was listed in a Valve Steam forum . . .

http://www.ibuypower.com/

A system worth $2.5k from Compaq or Dell costs only approximately $2k at the website above. The company seems small, but they might be my final pick. Anyone bought from them or have another favorite pre-made computer manufacturer? (Now don't be smart alecs and say something like "me" )

Haha, that was the link I was going to post when I first saw the title!

If you keep watching your PC, you'll see that the price fluctuates. If it goes down around 200 bucks, than quickly purchas it. This is the only downfall to ibuypower. The ONLY downfall. I'm sitting on an Ibuypower right now, and it's fantastic quality, fast shipping, and it even comes with a few extra little nifties thrown in. All in all, the best online PC building site I've ever worked with.

They rock. I got my computer from there, they have good prices, and I never had problems with the computer.

*feels giddy*

*claps at Massassians*

Thanks for the responses. I am suprised that someone heard of the place.

P.S. Another reason for a new system is to prepare for the advent of HL2 . . . . :)

If you get an Ibuypower, and add a radeon 9800 or X800, you get the ATI ticket, as well as farcry.

That's a good manufacturer; I've heard plenty of good things about them. Systemax is another potentially good choice (though they seem to like skimping a little on customizability), but you'll have to purchase through one of their vendor sites, such as Tiger Direct.

Yeah, I was going to go ATI, although I don't care for FarCry.

I would not buy a computer from them. I think it was Maximum PC that had an article on ibuypower.com a while ago. Someone wrote in, because they had purchased a computer from them. If I remember correctly, they forgot to include the video card when they sent out his computer, which is just sad. On top of that, he had trouble sending it back and getting a refund. I have heard other things about them that aren't too good. I would keep far away from ibuypower.com.

I've only HEARD these things. I've talked to many many many people who have ACTUALLY purchased from ibuypower, and it's been nothing but good news. Seriously, every company has a bad day, and this company is small, thus it's more likelly that their bad days are more profound and known, but that doesn't take away their legitimacy. I'd far rather take my chances, when I know that I can legally get a refund, than take the same chances on a PC that has a bunch of crap I don't want or need, that's overpriced and stocked with only a single brand's parts from Dell, or whatnot. No, just because Ibuypower's rep is going to be more seclusive, doesn't mean that they're any worse as far as service goes than Dell, persay.

I don't think computer manufacturers come pre-made. I dunno though, maybe someday. :\

I'm one of those that's bough, and this computer has served me exceptionally well for the past few years. my friend also bought a Dell computer around the same time for more money, and i got better 3D Mark scores. Their tech service, as far as calling in, is exceptional, i've only had to use it twice but the people genually seemed to know what they were doing. Also, IBuyPower has a very good standing with the BBB.

That would be one of the only disadvantages their computers have... :D

Teehee, funny joke . . .

Yeah, the cases are . . . strange. I was just going to get a regular case. Simple appearance isn't a problem with me.

Just stick with a basic Antec case, doesnt really get any better than that..,
