Ok. First things first. Halo 2 is a great game. But that is the WORST ending EVER. I have never been so thouroughly disappointed by an ending.

First off, I bet the devs thought "lets defy all conventions and end this with a BOSS FIGHT!" Yeah good job guys. One of the greatest things about the first game was that it had NO boss fights. This game has 3 or 4 total. Anyway, that aside, the ending is the worst I have ever seen. Basically what happens is you spend the entire game trying to stop the covie from activating a second halo and wiping out all life in the universe, when at the end, they activate it, and whew good job, we stop it from going off. But bad news guys, we find out that in an emergency stop of the activation of halo, all seven halo rings are put into standby mode, and can be activated at any time on the ship that the Master Chief has stowed away on. This ship also happens to be heading toward earth. At this point I'm thinking "oh rock on this is going to be sweet. one last big badass battle at the end of the game. save earth, and save the day." Haha WRONG the game ends right there! I was SO pissed off at this. The game sets you up for this massive climax and ends the game right there. The funniest part is, if you got the collectors edition, and you watch the little documentary about the making of the game, you'll see that they were really pressed for time around the end of the schedule, and I'm guessing they cut the end off of the game because they were already iron clad on the release date. So they just figured they could make a sequel or possibly a movie to tie up the end. This is bull****. It would have taken one more level to end the story forever, but no, lets not end it. Lets ruin the game by having the worst ending I have EVER seen.

Maybe Half Life 2 will be good...

dear god Halo 2 still ruled... ok yeah your Master Chief your in the Covenant Holy City High Charity, you get half way through teh level as Brutes and Elites are duking it out when all of a sudden you enter a Room with 20 some brutes and 10 Elites and 2 of the Super Huge ALiens that come in Pairs. All of a sudden Breaking Benjamin's starts playing a ****ing kick *** song and Cortana tells you to sit this battle out... **** THAT! I got dual Brute Plasma Rifles and went crazy in the lil arena area it takes place.... I kill the Brutes first and the covie turn on me and Guitar Riffs are blaring and i get the chills like no other as Im whooping *** left and right.... I NEVER had a game raise my adrenaline so much as that fight.... Halo 2 did end rather abrupt and one last battle on Earth woulda kicked *** but o well... playing through on Heroic at the moment its sooo hard.... Halo 2 did offer an awesome experience while it lasted...

Some idiot in another forum spoiled Half-Life 2 for me because he talked about the script (that was unencrypted in a Steam folder for a while) without spoiler tags, and suffice to say, I'm pissed.

I can however say that, from the tiny bit I accidentally read, it looks like the game's ending will be pretty good, creating enough material for a sequel while still brining HL2 to a nice closure.

I have heard that Halo 2 felt like a rushjob of a game, so it doesnt suprise me. I think the main reason for this game was for the rediculous profit the deveolopers knew the game would make, and for the xbox live support, but that is just my opinion.

Don't you see? Now if you really enjoyed the game, you can buy the $50 Halo 2 single level expansion! Good for Bungie, maybe bad for you!

The one thing I can tell you is that the game does not appear to have an ending. Whereas the first game did not end, indeed, stubbornly refused to end, even once the content had been utterly used up, Halo 2 goes to the credits at the very moment the story begins to glow hot with heat. I didn't believe it when I first saw it, and I speculate that those who are victorious on Legendary mode are rewarded with more - but when I say more, really I mean anything at all.

It wouldn't be so bad if I hadn't just spent a couple months enraptured by the bees, a feat of electronic storytelling which invested the Halo universe with such life and vigor that thoughts of playing Halo 2 were practically overpowering. I never know when I'm being reasonable, when the way I feel about something is actually appropriate to tell another person, so you'll have to forgive me for being disappointed that Halo 2 does not even attempt to resolve the epic conflicts it creates. It's like when you got the really big chocolate bunny at Easter, and all during dinner you imagined what sort of filling might be in there. It would never occur to you that there was nothing inside it, nothing but nothing, air from the tip of the ear down but there's not a Goddamn thing in there short of your fond ****ing wishes.

That's called "leaving the story open for a sequel".

... Worst Ending Ever? Sorry, that award would have to go to MoH: AA. The End? THE END?! You went through all of that crap in the last level, and that was it. The, freaking, END. Whatever Halo 2's ending is, it's sure to be far better than that.

Hehe, good point. That last mission just didn't seem like the end.

No you don't understand... None of the plot was resolved. Nothing was resolved at all! Nothing happened at the end. The last level is easy as hell, and then nothing happens.

Never played it. In fact, I've never heard of it.

Bill... Seriously. Empire Strikes Back didn't have much of an ending. They wrapped up about half of the story and that was it. I heard numerous people after the Fellowship of the Ring came out say that the ending of the movie sucked because nothing was resolved. In case you've never played Halo or forgotten, The Maw was a pretty easy level too. Even on Legendary the only real challenge I ever faced was getting past the big Flood/Covenant battles on the Pillar of Autumn. And if you waited for the two to kill each other off, even those weren't THAT bad. After that, blowing the fusion cores and driving to the Longsword at the end is simple.

Bungie is more than likely planning a third game. I wouldn't doubt it. Most of their better games have either been Duologies or Trilogies.

I wish my freaking copy would get here already so I could play through it and make a better argument.

Those people probably didn't know that LOTR is not a trilogy but rather one book in three volumes (the volumes were not in the author's intentions).

It was about half and half.

Half of the people knew the story, but expected the movie to have a more complete ending and then pick up again in the second. The other half didn't really have a clue.
