So I was looking through the USGS 1m resolution images; trying to find Area 51, and while I was exploring a dried-up lake bed north of Las Vegas, I found this. Anyone have any idea what it is?

I'd guess that this part is several hundred meters long; it actually is probably about three times as long as what you can see in this image.

Anyway, I'd judge that most of those lines are roads, but those triangles have me puzzled... Perhaps they might be testing grounds, or construction sites?

I've seen the likes of this before, and I would venture to say that it's probably a government installation. To my my knowledge, they actually have quite a few out in southwest, although it's impossible to get anywhere near them, as the terrain around them is studded with sensors and all. The guards will arrest you the moment you are seen. It's purpose? Go figure.

Hmmm, i dont know what scale those images are on, but it could just be fencing (why triangles? who knows) that has gathered sand around the lines, or captured within.

Actually, now that I think of it, it would be quite reasonable for those triangles to be designed for viewing from the air. Perhasp they are guidance arrows, and the diamond shape is a testing range for aircraft weaponry. Those pilots need all the guidance they gan get, if they manage to mistake schools for test ranges...:p
