GAAAAAAAAAAAAARGHRRHGRHR!!!!

I don't know how anybody codes for a living! I've got make a bouncing ball program in MATLAB and I can't get the damn thing to work! Deformation upon impact is modelled as an overlap between the ball and surface, but I can't get the little git to limit itself!! I drop the 'ball' from six metres up, and it penetrates the ground by 9 or ten metres!! It's only supposed to go in by the ball's radius divided by 5!!

And now I've lost my mechanical pencil.

mechanical pencils are totally overrated

are you checking the size of the overlap before plugging it in to your equation to calculate deformation? If the overlap is so large that the ball is totally under ground, then you need to deal with it differently perhaps?

I should point out that a) I don't know how you're modelling this and b) I've never used matlab, so don't take any advice I give as gospel. :p

O_o

So basically... Martyn can't control his balls. :o

Couldn't resist.

Perhaps you should have a different script to handle collision checking? As far as I've seen in games, those two things are handled separately.

That's pretty much the gist of my problem - I'm saying IF the overlap is too large (compare with a set reference), then set it to maximum allowable and carry on.

But it's sticking at the maximum - I reckon i need to do some back-to-the-drawing-board type thinking and re-attack from another angle.

Spoons.
