The only person in the Bush administration who I can say that I truely deeply respect (who I am grateful for serving in the executive branch) is no longer in the Bush administration.

This is a sad day indeed.

I find it interesting that Ashcroft, Powell, and the Secretaries of Agriculture, Commerce, Education, and Energy have all resigned.

The entire cabinet is ditching Bush.

Hmm...

Makes you wonder what is going on behind closed doors. At least Rumsfeld is still around. Wait, that sucks.

Reshuffling the cabinet is nothing particularly unusual, is it?

I know that Blair loves to do exactly that. Gets bored of the same old faces, I suppose.

From Powell's speech, it did seem like this was planned long in advance, and that he was only expecting to work for one term anyway.

I don't get it.

Anyways, nothing new for a cabinet to change after a presidential re-election.

Well, first he replaces Ashcroft with a Hispanic guy, now he replaces Powell with a black woman. It just seems like he is puttin these people in cabinet so he can gain support among minorities. Not saying these peopole are not worthy or capable but thats just what it seems like he is doing.

Oh, okay. I don't see it like that though.

He doesn't need their support anymore. He already got elected for a second term. It's not very likely he would 'need' their support for a third term, now is it?

I think he actually thinks those people are useful. 4 years ago I read that Condoleezza Rice is an excellent expert on the Cold War. I'm sure she's highly needed now, when the relationships between the USA and so many other countries have gotten so cold.

Apparently there was talk of some of these people leaving the administration before the election even took place, so its not terribly surprising.

As far as I had heard, Colin Powell was planing on ditching the Bush administration since somewhere arround this spring; he, perhasp the only truly competent person to erve in the federal branch of the executive government in perhaps decades, was apparently tired of being ignored again and again.

..Yeah, that, or he and his wife agreed he would only serve one term.

Condi definitely is replacing him: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4014961.stm

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it gives people what they want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.

Yeah, it's just a matter of time for the conspiracy theories to come out.

It was well known knowledge that Powell was not going to stay on board if Bush got elected. It's not like this is that major a shock.

From what I can understand too, part of the reason is his wife. I know that's one of the reasons he won't run for President is because she does not want him too (I'm not sure on his wife's issues - but I believe she has major depression issues, I could be wrong though).

And guys - just because Bush is putting Rice in Powell's spot probably is not an appeal to minorities.

Trust me - Powell and Rice are not the most beloved celebrity like figures in the African American community.
