The USA said "screw it" to the ABM treaty three years ago with the missile defense system, and the Bush administration's war on terrorism has enabled Putin to do pretty much anything in the name of this war. The Chechens are even worse off than they used to be and what democracy Russia has managed to establish is diminishing.

Putin is becoming a dictator, basically. Which is pretty bad considering he's ****ed up.

Russia is ridiculously corrupt and totally empoverished. The country is essentially run by the Russian Mafia. There's no way Russia could attain its former power with its current economic system.

In any case, I seriously doubt there would be another cold war... too many people are still alive and in power that remember the last one.

But give it 20 more years, and I could see it happening.

I doubt that Russia will actually be able to recover enough to actually develop any new weapon systems... Heck, they needed US help to guard and dispose of their existing WMDs!

Correction: netiher country will get rid of its nukes. Russia will cite financial problems, while the USA will cite terroist problems; both of which will hold up roughly as badly.

Also, it was previously mentioned that Albert Einstein merely theorised them, and was pressured by others to suggest the possibility that one might be built to Franklin Roosevelt. Of course, none of Einstein's research was used by the other nations that have developed nuclear weaponry.


Just to let you know, if it wasn't for capitalism, we'd likely be living in a communist country. And no, the Republicans hate real capitalism, the kind that means "free trade, open market." A prime example was the Bush steel import tarriffs, (unless you've conveniently "forgotten them") which is a very bold move against capitaslism, and a strike toward mercantilism, which is the economic system favored by the Republican party; capitalism was aproduct of Liberalism. Don't try to disprove my comments about economic systems here, claiming your correct just because you're a well-known Republican fanboy; just trying would show how little knowledge in the area of Political Economy you know; the above is fact, not opinion; it's how our beloved USA has withstood centuries, and many, many empires that attempted to defeat us, only to die themselves.

Eh. I'm a bit skeptical when Russia makes threats while more of its soldiers die off-duty than fighting in Chechnya. Our reason for pulling out of the ABM, the missile shield, wasn't going to protect us from Russian nuclear weapons anyway.

Titor was interesting, the world situation is interesting. But all his statements have so many outs. If nothing happens by 2007 say people will say Titor was, "in the wrong dimension", that his predictions were for a slightly different dimension.
