Is it scary that I knew that you were talking about the ion engine thing even before I opened the thread?

Anyways, it's unfortunate, but ion engines are old newz. Not that this isn't cool, of course (although, 13 months for a trip to the Moon seems a bit excessive).

Someone definitely needs to make a fusion engine. Or at least put a nuclear thermal rocket onto a spaceship.

Can we cryogenically freeze LEGO people in the ION engines?

I don't see why not. I'm sure you could reroute enough power from the ion engines to light a 2.4 volt LED light. :D

GENIOUS!

Forgo building the rest of a spacecraft, just build the ION engine, and cryogenically freeze an ARMY of Lego people inside. Then you can unleash them to take over the universe!

Now let's see them make socialism work :)
A desperate disease requires a dangerous remedy.

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it gives people what they want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.

That will never work.

The lego people just need to take over the moon and we can work from there, think smaller.

Ya, it took 13 months partly because the thing's the size of a photocopier. I'm willing to bet if you had a bigger engine you'd get more oomph out of it.

I could make a photocopier go faster.

There are more acronyms flying around here than in a bowl of alphabet soup that got raped by Azaz... (guessing the obscure reference gets you a cookie!)

But hell, I remember reading abotu ion engines a long time ago.. when I was still in California, so I was under 11 when I read that book. Said they'd be virtually useless for takeoff, but would improve space travel.

True, but when moving at impulse (sublightspeed) speeds, the ships use Ion engines.

Does anyone know if this was launched from earth, or from a ship orbiting earth? (I.E. Did it take off)
