So I finally got Linux to work. . .and I'm posting from it now. Slackware 9.0. Eh, I like it at least. Not quite ready to get rid of Windows for good though.

Any tips GBK? :-D

Oh, and how do I get my dumb mouse wheel to work? lol

Yeah, how's this for odd? My parents haven't been the least bit interested in my love-life my entire life, and now that prom is soon my Dad all of a sudden seems concerned that if I don't find a date and go it will mean I'm a social failure.
I don't get it... I accepted that fact a long time ago, why is he just now realizing it?

Tips? Shut down every daemon you dont need.

Youll problably have to manually edit your Xconfig file to get your mouse to work . . . thats the price you pay for running Slackware instead of a heavier distro... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

The mouse wheel thing depends on your X configuration file. You should look at the slack docs, because it varies by distro where the file is. You basically just have to change the mouse protocol. GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND. Oh, and if you bothered with a real distro, it would have worked automatically [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif] Actually, that's not true - I read that it's impossible to auto-detect a scroll wheel [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

It's usually the same thing, but I know the slackware docs tell you how to fix the mousewheel. It's the #1 most asked Linux newbie question. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

RH7 through 9 and Fedora all had it working.

btw, I'm switching from Fedora. I can't really put my finger on it, but I don't like it.

For mouse wheel:
Open your XF86Config (or XF86Config-4, whichever one you have), and in your mouse section, add the line:
Code:
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

You'll have to restart X to get it to work, but I think that should do it.

You should use a real OS, like Windows.
