Half-Life 2: Incredible game, but...

I just beat the game, yet I am still in the dark as to what the plot of the enitre game was. Here's what I got so far:

You are in a place called City 17, which is led by someone named Dr. Breen. Citizens of this town have no rights at all, and Civil Protection (aka Combine Soliders) pretty much keeps everyone in order. For some reason citizens in this town also consist of Vortigons, the aliens you shot up in the first game, who are apparently now friends with humans and speak perfect English. A resistance starts against the Combine, and your pretty much the guy everyone looks up to.

OK, now here are some questions I have:

1) What are the combine soliders? Human or alien, and how do they become Combine soliders?
2) According to newspapers in Dr. Vance's lab, Earth apparently surrendered to what I assume to be some alien race. Now logic dicates that this alien race is what you unleashed in HL1, but this is proven wrong seeing as the Vortigons are now working with you. These newspapers also state that somehow Dr. Breen became leader of the world after this? (correct me if I'm wrong). My question is who attacked us, and why did some science lab administrator get to the position he's at now?
3) Dr. Breen keeps refering to a group of people as "Our Benefactors"? Who are they?
4) How the HELL do you just end up in City 17?
5) What exactly did the G-Man say at the end of the game, in English? I'm not sure on the details, but I think he pretty much said "Good job blowing **** up. See you in Half-Life 3." Details would be appreciated.
6. Oh yea, and this one I forgot to add. But when I'm in the combine, going around in that little coffin thing along the tracks, what the hell are those bodies that almost look like skeletons that a wriggling around?

Thanks to anyone who can help me out understanding this.

Both I think. Humans can become of it but I beleive they are some humanoid type alien also.

2) According to newspapers in Dr. Vance's lab, Earth apparently surrendered to what I assume to be some alien race. Now logic dicates that this alien race is what you unleashed in HL1, but this is proven wrong seeing as the Vortigons are now working with you. The Combine did.. I think. The condiition of the surrender was to give him power to give a false sence of not being completely beaten?

3) Dr. Breen keeps refering to a group of people as "Our Benefactors"? Who are they?

Probably the group as a whole who conquered us. The Combine is just the military force... or something? Just guessing

4) How the HELL do you just end up in City 17?

I thought G-Man put you here... If you talk to that black guy right away he says "I didn't see you get on." Or so I thought.

5) What exactly did the G-Man say at the end of the game, in English? I'm not sure on the details, but I think he pretty much said "Good job blowing **** up. See you in Half-Life 3." Details would be appreciated.

You said it.

This explains a lot. From that and Breen's speeches, I'd guess the Combine is a war machine, one that seeks the best soldiers and genetics from each of the species it conquers and kills off or enslaves the rest. While you're fighting the transhuman soldiers in the prison, Breen warns that their failure would result in the elimination of their entire strain.

Also, the final boss in Half-Life is probably Breen's counterpart. I'd guess the Vortigaunts were Xen's only original sentient inhabitants.
