normal mapping for barney

i attempted to add normal mapping to barney... it works... but it's so subtle that you'll rarely even see it working

http://necropimp.home.insightbb.com/attempt1.jpg at least it isn't like the first attempt where the normal maps were horribly broken

i was gonna post this in showcase but i didn't really make anything... it was mostly converting the textures and turning them into normal maps then adding one line to all the vmt files

i'm thinking of doing the headcrab next... if i do i'll probably stop there... editing existing HL skins when a complete HL remake is inevitable is not really worth the effort...

So what exactly does this do?
"Flowers and a landscape were the only attractions here. And so, as there was no good reason for coming, nobody came."

Cool. I can see the normal mapping on the upper parts of his sleeves, anyway. :)

*thumbs up* Now if only I could be bothered to buy a DVD drive and then pass by my local retailer to purchase a copy of Half-Life 2.

See his sleeves, and how they're a bit wrinkly and folded? Normal mapping means that it isn't just a static painted texture, but that it'll react to lights around it as if it were real geometry instead of a flat triangle, you know, like how bump-mapping works.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

There is a total of 3 projects going on for Half-Life:Source that seems like they will actually get released

http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=52734
High definition version

http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?p=1011274#post1011274
high res textures

And then theres the mod to re-make half-life completely.

However none are doing what you are doing and aside from the High Def pack i don't think any of those things (especially the re-make thing) are going to be out soon. So i'm sure if you completed a pack people will take notice. However its all really up to you....... Time to Choose
