Have you ever been too good?
2004-11-21, 7:26 PM #1
This is a thread for people to rant about when they've been too good at something. I figure HL2 will come up in this thread alot.

Lately I have been catching a lot of hell in CoD:UO. I'm a pretty good player on maps with lots of people(15+), but when a map is 6v6 or less, I kill people like it's nobodies business(ie I just got done with a 2v2 chateau and I had 30/3 kill death ratio. Near the end I pissed a guy off so bad he left). Because of these I've got many complaints that I'm a hacker, having an aimbot, an sker(it's not my fault the spawned right in front of me!), spray and prayer(which isn't true unless I'm using the ppsh at close range), and some rather colorful language has been used. On another note, are there any CoD tournaments/ladders out there?

I find that bots never complain. Plus, if you turn them up to the highest difficulty its usually harder than anyone you find to play against on the net.

Unfortunately, there are no bots in CoD:UO

People are stupid. They're always so 1337 that they couldn't possibly suck.

When I was a n00b at JK, I was wailing all over these people, and so they accused me of being a hacker. Anyone who's played me in JK knows how bad I suck.

People who suck that bad simply can't face reality... even when reality is a video game.

Yea, my freind and I used to get called hackers all the time in JK. We would go in games and team up killing everyone. Utterly destroying them. Then sick of being called hackers, I *did* start hacking and had lots of fun. Then I quit shortley thereafter.

I was playing Halo PC one night. CTF at Blood Gulch. I played the role of sniper, and was lucky to be on the Red Team, thus I had the a goldy overview of the level from behind the base.

I think I was in the zone that night, because I literally was getting a headshot everytime I fired a round. I was murdering the Blue Team. Literally. I must've killed the entire time at least two or three times over. So eventually the 'leader' of the Blue's gets pissed, and starts yelling at his team to take me down. Right after he said that, I killed him. PURELY COINCIDENTAL, but it was funny as hell. They attempted to get me about 5 times before they succeeded. Right after they got me, another guy on my team ran up there, grabbed my rifle, and picked up where I left off until I could respawn. The Blue's were not happy, and started leaving, telling me that I was an ******* for not letting them kill me. Which was confusing really... Isn't the entire point of being a sniper to kill the enemy, while remaining hidden and alive? Who knows...

That was lots of fun. I haven't been able to get anywhere near that good in along time. I finished the game with the lowest score on the team, but with loads of respect as being a key player. Frontline people will ALWAYS get more kills than a sniper.

Two of my friends (one of them being Noble Outlaw on these forums) and I are really good at Super Smash Brothers. Everyone else is scared to play me. I get teamed up on and still win.

Snipers seem to always win the FFA games I'm in. The more people there are in a game, the higher the score a sniper will get.

You obviously never played JO or JA. It was a real struggle to actually lose against the bots in those games. I always found myself accidentally winning when all I was doing was messing around looking for tricks to do.

That would more or less be the exception. In an FFA game, the sniper doesn't have to be as choosey about who he mows down. Targets are EVERYWHERE, just pick one and shoot IT before it shoots YOU.

In a team game, like CTF, the sniper's role changes. His job (the way I see it) is to protect his team from the enemy. That would include (in Halo) sniping the drivers of vehicals, or their mounted guns. Helping to protect the flag carrier as he comes back to base. Even if that man is in a vehical, and a guy is on the mounted gun, I keep close watch over him on the way back. Keeping the enemy off your team's backside. If my team is past the teleporters, and a bunch of Blue's jump out of those teleporters behind them, I see it as my job to take them out so my team doesn't get shot up. And the sniper in a team based game generally wants to keep an eye out for lone team members that are in combat, and have an enemy creeping up behind them.

The way I see it, in a Team based game, the sniper has a larger role to play, and has to choose his targets, and prioritize them. Somebody chasing after the flag carrier would get a higher priority for a bullet to the head than someone about to jump a lone team member. It's because of all that, that snipers in team games typically score lower than the people up front fighting. Those guys are always in combat, and thus always have a new target. For them, the only objective is to get the flag and take it back to base, while holding the team together.

Hell yeah, I've played tons of CS and TFC, and some tricks in both would get me into some trouble with some server admins :)

But now the skill level in CS is sooo much wider... On some servers, and I'm unstoppable, but others have much better players, and I'm hard pressed to keep up. There's so many good players that I don't stick out as much anymore.

PS. Oberfeldwell just got scouted a few times in a row by yours truly on the Massassi server. Nyah nyah nyah :P

I've been too good in a few games before. I wasn't called a hacker, but it was just no challenge. I left after a round or two because I wan't having any fun. Then I'll join another server and get owned. :p

Snipers are always called hackers/campers if they're good, because apparently using a weapon that allows you to kill at long range is bad. this thread sorta reminds me of a penny arcade comic.

That is funny, Echoman, as I was just thinking about JO bots. Me and my freind were playing FFA Carbonfreeze a while back, and we had some bots in the game. Every five-ten seconds the message Ugnaut Died would flash up on the screen. :p Apparently he kept force jumping over the railings to his death. :D Happened over fifty times.

I used to ge that sometimes in JK. I was a pretty good NF saberist and I understood the way the game lagged so I murdered people pretty bad.

I get it sometimes in BF:V or DC when I only get killed a few times.

It goes both ways for me too. In COD:UO I either have the top score or the lowest score. I was playing an SD game earlier tonight and I wasnt really paying attention because I was trying to finish my reading for class, but as soon as I finished the book I started sucking more. Then the map changed and I raped everyone on the next map....

what names do you guys go by when playing CoD games?

I think the biggest case of stupidity I've seen in online gaming would have to be people whining about campers in rainbow six.

Idiots! That's how you play this game! All they do is ban every useful gear from the server (heatbeat sensors, tear gas, flashbangs, mines, breaching charges), so everyone's just running around like idiots with unsilenced assault rifles, throwing nades everywhere and killing half their team - and if you dare to use the slightest bit of strategy, you get kickbanned. Heck, I even got kickbanned for proning once. PRONING

My friend David was too good at MOH Spearhead. I played that alot, but when we went 1v1 on Stalingrad he always beat me by a huge ratio. He would get on rifles only servers and pwn. I would get on and hope that I got more kills than deaths. :p

Well, there was that first(and only, really) time that I tried Counterstrike Source where people were flaming me because I was typing everything out, instead of abbrevating.

Basically, it went like...

Burrie : 'oi, a newbie question perhaps, but could anyone tell me how <question>?
SomeOtherBloke : **** YOU BRY! U R A TEACHER UR SUMTIN? STOP TYPING EVERYTHING FULL! UR AN IDIOT!

Granted, there were some nice folks who were more than happy to help me.

'tards.

I got kicked plenty from the zone for using force pull. In an FF match.

I did love it when I'd host a game, and some hacker would come in and try to mess the game up, and just keep saying " U R GYA" and stuff.

I just laughed :)

Back in the day, running a CS dedicated server, and as admin, I could see both team's chat. I think that was the only time I was any good at CS. :(

I was kicked from a MOH:AA server for mentioning that the server admin was hacking.
I was also kickbanned from another server for Pistolwhipping snipers. They were just sitting there, so I ran up and *whack*

I've been banned a lot for huge K/D ratios in CoD. They accuse me of "spray and pray", but uh, what the hell am I supposed to do when you're 2 feet away from me and I'm holding a Thompson?

Word.

I [among a few others] hold that the primary propblem with Multi-player gaming is that it involves other people ;)

It can have its moments, but those are usually reserved for things such as Mario Kart or Perfect Dark, where if somene's winning too much you can physically injure them, instead of merely typing out abbreviated pejoratives ["What are you, some kind of mexican jew lizard?!"]

In fact quite possibly the most fun i ever had in UT was playing for an hour on a server, thinking my qod these people arne't persistently whinging and swearing at eachother, and theyre not doing qodawful hateful things like Translocating-Every-Step-Because-Actually-Running-Makes-Them-Possible-To-Hit. Then i noticed at the map rotation that all of them had like pings of 0, and it all made beautiful sense.

There has been a few JK and JO NF saber games I've played in that baned me or kicked me because i was kicking their ***.

it's kinda funny hosting your own game in JK and you own everyone who comes into it and they accuse you of hacking and try to get the admin to kick you.... i had a few games like that, in about 10 min I racked up 15 kills to his 0 and tried to have myself kicked...

Last Saturday I was playing GC and PS2 games with a couple of friends. We fired up Soul Calibur 2 on the GC, and we agreed to play winner-stays-on. Six wins later I got bored and decided to relinquish my hold on Player 1 :D

My favourite example comes from Perfect Dark a few years ago, though, when I beat a 3-1 handicap against my friends :D They don't suck, either. We were all fanatical about that game way back when and played it all the time :p

That's the only game (or series) that I consider myself good enough at to actually take people on. I hate losing with such a passion that I just refuse to play. I know, really lame. I refuse to play against Flex in Starcraft because he's far too good, which is a shame, as the comps are way too predictable.

fps games are interesting, insults are basically compliments.
I've been called a hacker only once so far in my cs career, and I took a screenie :D
That's the tradition amonst my freinds, we rate the insults and keep the best ones, hacker is of course a top-of-the-line insult.

Games I consider myself really good at:

UT2004
JK

Games I consider myself decent at (can hold my own, depends on the people playing):

JO
Starcraft

UT2004 doesn't really have the problem of "insults". No one talks much in UT2004 matches.

JK, I haven't had the problem of insults, more or less because I played with level-headed people, usually #massgames folk :D

JO I am great at only with sabers and force.

Starcraft I can kill any computer any day, but people oftentimes can beat me, especially if they are good early game and can micromanage.

Now for the problem games, mostly JO.

JO, I have a bad habit of going into the enemies' CTF base, and just fighting random people with sabers. I've taken 3 people before and not died. I've taken people with rockets, flechette cannons, repeater rifles, disrupters, thermals, etc. And still I win. Now there are folk that can beat me, but its not too often. (Unless I do something stupid like attempt at doing guns. Then I die. I suck at guns.) People always blame me for scripts, speed hacks, etc. It's hilarious, and I just laugh at them.

In JK, I am only really good at NF guns. I am REALLY good at that, especially if there are no mods. Kirby can attest to this. I think one person in everyone I have played at #massgames has ever beat me in JK NF No mods. But no one says I hack, just that I'm good, so no problems there.

I hate snipers in non team based games...

if you are in a game that has a goal such as CTF, snipers are a must have in most cases to as per example in an above post, protect the base and provide cover for teammates on the feild.

but snipers in a DM or FFA... I hate them, shows no real skills to sit halfway across the map and kill someone... although it is fun to walk up behind them when they are scoping the feild and crack 'em in the back.

We installed Half Life at school a few years back. Damn I owned.

I'm also good at JK. Every week for about 3 months my friend always said "I've got better! I can easily beat you now" then i'd promptly beat him 50 - 0 again :p

I'm also moderatly good at CS. Although I only really play the aim_ maps. Usually on those I can get a 50:15 kill:death ratio. aim_ak-colt is the best map ever :D

UT2k4 (which I don't have any longer :()
JK (nf sabers, nf guns)
Soul Caliber 2
Tony Hawk Games
AvP/AvP2 (as an alien, I usually end up with a 4:1 k:d ratio)

Those are the games I'm really good at. I've been called a hacker in JK, cuz I do, but only in hack games. I realize that hacking even in hacks only games (I <3 cog) kills my credibility, but I'm pretty damn good at JK when I don't hack and play NF sabs. Sometimes I can do alright at guns, but I love it even if I suck.

I snipe in Farcry a lot... Best damn sniper in the world.

It's hilarious in Monkey bay when someone takes my sniper spot, and I happen to have an extra flash bang. I only play this game at LANs.

"Hey Tyler!"
"What?"
"*drops flash bang right behind him* Look behind you or I'll blow you up!"
"*gets up and turns really fast, just to see me facing away for a split second* ARGH"

I look across the room and see his screen all white and his hands in the air. This promps a knife kill of course :)

I really wish that the expansion had a 'push' weapon. Where you went up to someone and pushed them, causing them to activate ragdoll and fall over whilst alive. Really funny for people who don't know how to go prone, and like to snipe on really high cliffs.
