Anyone have any idea of either an IRC program that comes in a zip, and is free, or a remote jIRC client that lets me connect to any server in IRC? Curious I am.

XChat is free for Linux, but for Windows I think it isn't. Miranda is a free IM program that supports IRC, I think it comes in a zip without an installer.

[edit] I just checked the page, it says "DOWNLOAD INSTALLER"... woops :o

I think I'll check oldversion.com for xchat--I'm pretty sure older versions didn't require registration and all that

I use gaim for irc, too.

There is pjIRC, superior to jIRC and free, no registration. Almost as comfortable as mIRC is.

Just use telnet. Most computers already have a telnet client installed, all you need is an account somewhere, and you're all set. Thats what I do whenever I'm on a public computer that wont let me run .exe files to install any kind of IRC client.

Install mIRC, then zip up the folder. BAM, zip-file uberIRC proggie.

And yes, it works straight out of the zip.
